Information on Vintage Steamer Trunk?

An old streamer trunk.Hi - I have had this steamer trunk for quite a while and has only been in my family, back a couple of generations. My grandmother emigrated from the UK using this trunk, via ship in the '40s after meeting and marrying my grandfather during WW2. She wound up becoming ill and went back to the UK for treatment and to be with family, but this trunk stayed behind and after my grandfather passed, being the oldest, I always had the responsibility to manage affairs, etc. I always thought it was cool but never found a good use for it. Recently someone pointed out the swastika imprinted on the top of the trunk which I had never seen before and no one left in the family to ask about it - any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

The SWASTIKA on this trunk makes it for a very interesting piece, it looks like it had been peeled off, do not try and clean it off in any way. I would get hold of an antique dealer and give him all the information that you have told here. Any thing German from that period is highly sort after.

Thanks -- I'll take that advise and try another decent antiques dealer to see what the deal is with this --

That is likely not a swastika from Nazi Germany. It is backwards and likely was out there as an Indian symbol pre WWII which used the symbol to represent peace and harmony.

The Nazis turned it backwards to represent going against peace and harmony. Cool trunk

Was anyone in your family part of the Nazi Party?

Maybe that is how the swastika got imprinted on the trunk.

To my knowledge no. My grandmother was from Edinburgh, wales and grandfather from Poland. It belonged to and was used by her.

This is a Wardrobe trunk.
Wardrobe trunks made a solid debut in the 1870s during the Victorian Era.

Perhaps it was a trophy trunk inherited from one of the members of the Nazi party. During the WW2, everything happened.
