Identifying Extremely Small Insects?

Identifying Extremely Small Insects - tiny bugs on wood frameworkI just noticed these extremely small insects around my front door. They look like ground pepper, move fairly quickly, and you can only smoosh them with your fingernail or something hard and flat. What are they and how do I get rid of them?

If you spray with a broad spectrum insecticide, you will most likely get rid of them without having to identify what they are.

Double check with this image to be sure you do not have powderpost beetles. This is one beetle that is more like a termite in that it damages wood:

If that is what you have, once you get rid of the bugs (these are one of the few times I would use a pro vs DIY methods since they can cause so much damage), it is best to seal the wood with a moisture sealant since they seem to thrive on damp wood.
