The vet tried to label him as a mix when we brought him in to be neutered. I know the mom is a red nosed Pit Bull and was told the dad was a blue nosed Pit. Thoughts?

From the images you have posted he does look an awful lot like an American Pit Bull Terrier. However, you are saying that both the parents are both Pit Bulls but are they full-blooded? I would suggest speaking with the person you bought the dog from and asking them if they could supply you with some papers about the mother and father of the dog. This would really clear this up and set your mind at ease.
He looks purebred and only a DNA test would show for sure.

He does look like a mix breed, as the chest is not as robust as a American Pit. Is it possible one of the parents or grandparents is a mix?

Maybe a Pitbull terrier possibly mixed with another breed. Or somewhere down the line, there may have been a mixed pit and therefore he is receiving those traits. Make sure youve got all info from his breeder. Unfortunately, some will bend the truth to make an extra buckwhich is awful. Hes cute as he can be though :) good luck with your findings!
He looks to me like he may be a mix. But he looks to have 75% pit bull or more. Very handsome dog.
Your dog looks a lot like a pit with possibly some Mountain Cur or Rhodesian Ridgeback somewhere in its bloodline.
