The type of disability program you are on will/may determine what type of social programs will help you.

  • As a general rule, you can tell your social worker what you need and they can recommend (or even assist you) places/agencies for you to seek help.
  • Whatever type of assistance you need will have to come from an agency/place in your area so be sure to use your zip code when searching any sites.
  • You can always place a request on Craigslist or Freecycle for help with this but remember, the pick up and delivery may be up to you to provide no matter who helps you so always be sure of the conditions in the offer. Check your local Craigslist/Freecycle and place a "wanted" ad if nothing is available.

  • Most items from this type of place and also thrift stores will probably not be new items and you will/may have to provide pick-up/delivery as well as assistance with loading/unloading.
  • The Salvation Army and Goodwill also help with furniture but again, they may not deliver but you can always ask if you need help with this. You can find local offices with their name and your zip code.
  • If you have churches in your area, you may find help faster through one of them (or their thrift stores).
  • Here is a site that has places named (with telephone numbers) - just find your state/city.

I would contact social services in your area. You could also place a want ad on Freecycle, or see if someone is offering one.
