Parvo Advice For Those Who Can't Go To The Vet?

I have a puppy that is 10wks. today. Last night he started throwing up chunks of food, I didn't think anything of it, till this morning. He was still throwing up and it was getting runnier than at first. He is a little lethargic and has diarrhea and worms.

I have seen parvo many times before so I know that is what it is. I can not afford a $500 vet bill, I know this is what it costs because a few years ago I had a dog that had parvo and I had him treated for it.

I am giving him electrolytes as well as oatmeal water to keep his blood sugar at a normal level, and Kaopectate for diarrhea. Are there any home remedies that really work? So far we made it through day 1.

Hi, I have a beautiful pit bull she is 9 months old I diagnosed her with parvo 4 days ago today. There is hope! I noticed Sasha had parvo on the 3rd day when she was at her worst she was vomiting yellow foam an was pooping puddles of dark brown reddish awful smelling diarrhea. She was so bad off she couldn't even stand up and was lying in her own feces and vomit. :( She was so depressed and has that mommy help me look so I helped her.

I could not afford the vet so I immediately searched and searched the internet an looked up hospital cures as well as home cures and did them all! Here's what I did I used fresh squeezed lemon juice, human amoxicillin (vet uses its sister penicillin), as well as a nausea pill for humans called Zofran (vet uses ondansteron generic for zofran) and lots of water and Pedialyte. I gave her 5ml of lemon juice in a child syringe twice daily, took the powder out of one 500 mg amoxicillin, and crushed one 8mg Zofran til it was powder mixed it with boiling hot water so it would dissolve an sucked it up with the syringe as well I did this 3 x daily.

You also have to be very positive around her and love on her if you believe there's hope she will too. If you don't believe neither will she and you don't want her to give up. Today is the 5th day and she is getting up and walking around and drinking water on her own. She is no longer having diarrhea nor is she lethargic. She is now peeing and a million times better then she was 2 days ago when I thought she was going to die. I definitely recommend this to everyone it will work and your dog will live. I will keep you posted as she improves. Have hope.

Hello there, I personally prefer to stay away from chemicals whenever possible. But like us all, my heart breaks when I see my puppies go through illnesses, especially those that are life threatening.

I caught the symptoms very early on, lathargic, awful smell, beginning slimy diarrhea, and some vomit. I immediately used a homeopathic remedy.
A recipe that I found has worked before, I blended 3 garlic cloves, to boost the puppies immunity and help the puppy beat the virus with 1/4 cup milk. For the dehydration I used coconut water with Chia seeds, I let it sit till the seeds got slimy.
(I found chia seeds are known for various medicinal properties and are slow release so the puppy kept hydrated even if he was beginning to lose liquids.)
I gave the coconut water with a turkey baster. For the garlic milk (I think that if he was further along i would soaked the garlic milk in Chia aslo, but you would need to use something that would allow the Chia seeds to go through the opening) I started with a very small dose of garlic, and gradually increased.

I gave him a dose every 2 hours with a clean syringe, (with out the needle), on the furthest back side of his cheek so that he had to swallow it. That and a lot of prayer, helped my 2 1/2 MO puppy recover within 24 hours! I couldn't believe how fast he recovered! Every dog is different, mine was a Shih tzu puppy. You are welcome to try it, I would hate to keep this to myself knowing that it saved my puppy's life.
If you feel better taking them to the vet, by all means do so, you might be faced with horrible news, that your puppy might not make it. With this homeopathic remedy, you can certainly give him an extra chance for survival. Don't forget to pray, after all he did give us the gift of life, and we should do everything we can to help them get well. I hope this helps.

Tamiflu, echinacea/goldseal blend, colloidal silver are all recommended to aid in parvo treatment. If your pup is dehydrated and not drinking water, administer an enema every couple hours to hydrate. Rub syrup or honey on their gums for low blood sugar.

Activated charcoal as well as colloidal silver my furbaby is also fighting this. Diarrhea with alot of blood the smell is awful as well as vomiting blood and phlegm and yellow stomach acid. We are on day 2. Every case is different and its horrible and my other furbaby died at the vets where it costed me a fortune for stool sample study and blood work to get a we dont know. Ugh... you must keep your furbaby hydrated that is number 1. I will try to attach the screen shots for the charcoal and silver

If he is eating and drinking then thats good. Dogs normally will starve themselves in order to kill the virus. Because the virus survives off just about anything the dog eats.

The dog still alive? I have a 6months Samoyed dog affected by Parvo . This is the day 2. I have been to the vet yesterday but couldn't keep up with the bill. She( Kim ) hasn't taken anything yet since yesterday . I want to know what to do. I am still hopeful!

February 14, 20200 found this helpful

My 6months Samoyed has been so very super active until I noticed she has been starved intermittently for two days because I only fed her early morning but very late at night I couldnt feed her . The reason was because of my job. Despite that Kim was still active until I gave her a different meal combinations of meat, fish, vegetables, oil and other local spices that has been freezed for days . I heated the meal and gave her excess early morning because I would take long time before I came back from work. On coming back late , I gave her different kind of meal but she couldn't eat as usual. The sickness started that very day which is the fourth day now. She started vomiting the next day and weak . At this point she dranks only water and vomited . I couldn't stand it and I had no cash left on me. I took her to vet to help me out with treatment but nothing the vet could render me because I had no cash. He suggested since I haven't vaccinated the dog and dewormed for a long time I should do that first before he would start treatment to know if she has parvo. He suggested I bought his can food if she could eat after I bought the deworming tablet right there to give her but she kept on vomiting after she took the deworming drug. He told me the dog only had 50 50 chance of survival even if he starts the treatment .
At this point ,I went back home dejected! No options where to raise money .
She is very weaker now even when I have bought drugs like Amoxicillin,Dioralyte, promethazine hydrochloride,Gascol and Ciprotab.
After administered, all the drugs to her she still throw up. She can't still eat, drink and walk as usual! What can I do ?

I know from experience giving your puppy raw eggs mixed with Pepto-Bismol will help with keeping vitamins and what not in their system because of course they're puking a lot so they are dehydrated the Pepto-Bismol will help with helping their immune system become more normal if he will there feces will become more solid while using the Pepto-Bismol and it will help them with staying hydrated if there's feces are more solid than they are of course not losing a lot of they're much needed hydration these two things are a saint they definitely do help and I assure you it helped two puppies that I personally owned one of and my mother had the other

He may not have Parvo. If he is only throwing up he could have ate something like a piece of bone or toy that is stuck in his stomach. Call shelters, humane society etc and ask for help or if they have grants to help pay the vet bull

Crystal, I've never had to deal with Parvo, but I don't think I would ever depend upon home remedies for the victims of such without the professional advice of an animal vet Doctor.

Ten weeks is such a tender age . . . please find a way to secure such advice from a professional before risking the puppy's life and well being: Your puppy is counting on your wisest choices for the long, happy, and healthy life he is hoping to share with you.

Please see a vet. Find one that can work with payment options to allow you and puppy the best chance for a long, happy life together. Good luck and best wishes for a long life with your dog pal!

Get Pedialyte (probably in the baby aisle) Bottle the dog every four hours for a couple of days. Should be fine. Parvo dehydrates the dog. (Small baby bottle). I've done this on 2 separate dogs. It works. I got these instructions from a vet. The dogs are now immune.

Home remedies do work if you stick with it! When my dog was exposed to parvo, I pureed his food with water and , pedialite just to keep him hydrated. That was the main most important thing and I had to feed him through a syringe every couple hours ...it was messy.. he didn't use the bathroom, or have much interest eating or drinking moving or anything else.. but on the 3rd day of liquid dieting thru the syringe, my daughter's turn to watch and feed and assist our Domino, I was at work, my daughter called me and told me our pup wanted outside, then she said he peed for like 5 minutes... maybe an exageration, but still , when she told me that, I knew all our hard work paid off! And hes been the best dog we've ever had, i didnt really care , Like or want a dog before then. Domino was born in 2009. A registered white Pit, named Mighty, and a stray female blue heeler...and we've had him all 7 years.. ... if his life.. although he's a fence jumper he always comes back... no matter where we've lived.. he runs off and always comes back smelling as if rolled in death or sewer...but since we've moved here this new neighborhood seems to be the roughest on him.. he has come back beaten up...first time ever. And we got through that healing time in a week... but this time I am really worried ...him and my daughter's dog took off for 6 hours. They came back.. Domino was obviously exhausted from thier Long journey. I figure he was probably trying to prove himself to be just as energetic and compete with my daughter's 2yrold pit named Bacon. .. they both came in layed down and snoozed.. the next day, Domino woke up , I noticed he was favoring his front left paw.. licking it as usual.. but in a deeper sense..and for a coupke days that was the only symptom.. then 4th day my daughter said Domino's head looked sunken in.. but its not his head... its his eyes.. its like the skin around his eyes is stretched tight and pulled back so he has this sad surprised expression.. and its now the 3rd day it's worse and he's throwing up everything he eats.. I took him on a walk down the street and this time. He seemed really exhausted and it was half the distance we usually go.. plus... he always marks every bush and tree in every yard as we go.. this time I noticed he was hiking his leg as if to mark.. but..towards the end of our walk there was no fluids coming out... my husband used to care for many of these larger breeds .. and suggested a shot of penicillin *(I personally was thinking the pills ) he went and g bought a steroid penicillin and gave it to him in his leg.. yesterday.. I wasn't around to see it but I know that it seems like his ears have been standing straight up and cocked a little back.. since. And the appearance of his eyes along with the positioning of his ears. Its quite scarey .. im nursing him with pedialite at the moment.. trying to figure out arrangements to pay for a vet bill... I don't know what this is this time ..its not parvo. .. his eyes are sunk in horrible. .God please help us..

UPDATE: This situation has been going on since the Sunday before last. On Thursday, I took my boy to the Vet....but first of all I ask how much money I was going to need, and the receptionist told me to bring up to 250$.. I screeched at that..although my dog is worth that and so much more....I was only able to scratch up 100$ and at the end. On the way out it only cost 58$ So it wasn't too bad there ..anyway....we seen the vet.. she took in all the details.. didnt run any tests.. gave him a shot of an antibiotic.. and some steroid pills. Told me his throat and head is swollen, that's why his eyes appear to be squinting and sunken. She determined..that he may have been bitten by a snake.. on his foot.. the first thing he was limping and crying over. ..we're going into the 3rd week with this.. he can't swallow anything solid still... and he walks like a robot. . Very stiff.. its alot of work.. he's trying to be normal again.. we're trying to help him...

As in my previous posts..please look into a Care2 credit card. Most vets accept them and they're fairly easy to obtain. You can either apply for them by doing a Google search..Care2..or if you go to your vet..they will help you apply for one right in office while your pet is getting the care they need. Blessings.

Health food store. Buy enough colloidal silver for 2 enemas. !0ppm or better strength. Germs are multiplying in the large bowel. An enema , half hour later another enema. This will absorb through intestines and keep killing the parvo germs. Keep your dog hydrated by whatever means. Electrolytes, chicken soup, gator aid even if you have to stay up all night and syringe into mouth.

I saved my puppy with raw eggs and Pedialyte.  At the first signs of parvo I force fed my puppy a blended raw egg, I didn't use it but would recommend a medicine syringe, food injectables syringe without the needle or a turkey baster in a pinch or with larger dogs.  With my puppy, a Chiwenie, I adminstered 5cc(would probably use 5cc per pound on my labs) of Pedialeyte every thirty minutes, thats 48 doses a day, in-other words you will need help and copious amounts of caffiene.  The egg coates the stomach and prevents vomiting so the electrolytes can be absorbed in the intestines.  If vomiting recurrs adminster an egg.
Continue Pedialyte and eggs when needed (after vomiting) until dog/ pup becomes more responsive and is eating solid food.
NOTE: as the animal becomes more healthy you may want to increase the time between doses by fifteen minutes.

I also agree that it should be checked by a vet.I read an article about fleas and parvo that was very interesting to me.The fleas are killing us this year, even though I use Frontline. I think that I may try this on them www.wolfcreekranch.net/diatomaceous_earth.html.

My 15 month old Pit bull started vomiting Thursday night Friday it became worse so my husband took him in to the Animal ER $450. later we were told it was most likely Parvo and it would be another $1200. to treat. We were given antibiotics and anti nausea.

We tried and tried to keep him hydrated but we lost him Monday morning. Tuesday our 4 &1/2 Month old Pitt bull Mercy starting showing symptoms. I have taken to sleeping on the sofa with her to give her 24 hour care I read that hydration is key and that its half cup of whatever you are using to hydrate per bowel movement (diarrhea).

She is vomiting in a bowl so I have taken to measuring that output and give her as much as she loses. We are using peppermint and chamomile tea with honey for stomach cramps as well as pedialyte mixed with activated charcoal. Earlier I was able to spoon feed her baby food. I am really glad that every one here has been supportive. It is very disheartening to read people saying things like "you shouldn't have a dog if you can't afford them" No one makes a conscious decision to do so. After holding my baby as he took his last breath I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone. I will keep you posted as to how well this turns out for Mercy. My prayers go out to anyone dealing with this

Ok wow lots of good info here. Lets put the whole money issue aside for a moment any of you vetters ever ask your vet what percentage of parvo pups they actually save? If you did you would find it to be very low. The reason it is so low is because they just don't give the care and nutritional support a parvo puppy needs, parvo puppies need round the clock treatment for at least 3 days and we are talking every 30 minutes till eating and drinking on their own consistantly.

Vets either are not willing or not capable of doing this most will hook them up to fluids give antibiotics and check temps then there is no treatment overnight and a parvo pup left at the vet for the weekend is most certainly doomed to pass away. So regardless of homepathy or modern medicine at home treatment is a must to have the best chance of saving your pup.

The emergency tea is great and so is the parvo buster I bought it for my catahoula bulldog he was diagnosed with parvo, however I feel it was because he had been vaccinated 4 days before I took him to the vet. The reason I don't believe it was parvo is he only threw up once and had 3 diareahas. You see he tested positive because I had just injected him with the virus. Vets don't want us to know this for fear we might wise up to the whole vaccination scam.

He was at the vet for 4 days we were not allowed to see him and recieved very vague information on the treatment he was receiving (I have since changed vets). So I had a spirit led urge to take him home to finish treatment I purchased the parvo buster and made the tea. He came home on Friday. He would not have made it through the weekend as he was already very overhydrated puffy eyes, muzzel and very loose squishy skin. I cried he cried I prayed and we went home, he licked my tears the while way. We got home started the tea and waited for the pb to arrive.

It came Saturday around noon and we started it right away. I was so tired from being up all night treating my puppy but a red bull helped me so I could keep helping him. After 2 days of round the clock care he was hungry eagerly licking the babyfood, I had been rubbing on his gums. So I had a can of gastro from the vet, I have him a spoonfull with the treatment.

He made a full recovery I did finish the antibiotics the vet sent home (which upon researching had nothing to do with the treatment of parvo hmm) I never needed the nausa meds they sent and he is doing great all together I spent $1000 to save him but if I had known sooner it only would have cost less then half that for all the tea ingredients and the pb.

Pedialight is good if your dog isn't vomiting but if he is that can make it worse just stick to oatmeal water with maple syrup and emergency tea for hydration. Also there are alot of er teas out there they are good for the most part but stay away from those with garlic as they can make vomiting worse. Collidal silver is good too.

My favorite thing to insure great health in my animals is diatomacious earth google it its great I take it myself dogs and cats get it and its great in the litter box too. Impprtant things to know pale gums =dehydration cool paws =low nutients and fever =infection hope this helps someone.

First of all the Vets who let people put their animal down because of vet fees, should not be in the animal medical business. How do you put that animal down without trying treatment because the owner cant afford the high cost for treatment.

Let me say this Keflex stomaxh nausea pill, flagel, and iv bag give twice day to keep from dehydration is what my vet sent home. For $300 with vet fees. And test im treating my pit at home...and making payments weekly to cheaha animal clinic oxford al..If your vet doesnt find a way to save tour animal and is worried about the upfront cost. That in reality all meds I was sent home with is at vet cost under 50 bucks and they markup meds to profit, and I cared for my pet at home the same as they would..and prefer to care for my pet.

So that $1,000 to 6,000 in care is BS and those money hungry no animal caring devils need to be put out of business. If after I'm done with treatment and this dont work or no more options available then we talk putting to sleep not before over a greedy dollar.

I live in Wisconsin and couldn't afford to get the best meds for Duke, a day later Duke was getting worse so I called WVRC back. I was told I had to pay $2000 up front for him to stay and get treatment and if my check bounced they would come after me. Mind you I paid them $390 the day before (confused by that statement seeing the I have never been there or ever given them a check before) this place is called WVRC in Mount pleasant, WI. I'm so sad today Duke died yesterday and I really do miss him. Love u Dule u will never be forgotten.

My four month old pitbull contracted parvo about 4 days ago. Last night I researched how to care for her at home because I can't afford the vet care.
she wasn't eating, her stomach sunk is sunken in, she was vomiting and had bloody feces. I felt she was on her deathbed. So I followed some advice and gave her pedialyte and chicken broth last night.

This morning she actually wagged her tail and showed some energy and strength.
Today I did the same thing, two syringe fulls of pedialyte and chicken broth. But she is drinking water on her own and surprisingly she ate some turkey this morning then a bit of wet food and hasn't thrown it up.
I'm wondering if I should invest in this colloidal silver or charcoal tabs since she is already drinking on her own and slowly starting to eat.
Any advice?

It's always good to have Pedialite, Colloidal Silver, and charcoal tabs on hand ANY time you have a furbaby as they can help them immensely in an emergency situation. While at the same time, you should certainly call your vet if it's an emergency situation..they may be able to help you extend your pet's life until you can get them professional treatment if what you have at home doesn't work.

I just wanted to add; I have had several puppies that had parvo tried many different things to save them some succesful and some not. The Pit I have now who was saved from parvo by the vet. The vet told me what saved her was somehow I kept her hydrated and believe me, it is key for the survival of any pup with parvo! Because once they have it, it is there till it runs its course. Actually it is not the virus that kills them, it's what it does while it lives inside them. All the vet can really do is try and keep them hydrated via an IV. I don't mean to carry on anyway. I have tried everything to try and make the dog drink water.

It is going to sound strange, but it works and that's what matters. Try pouring small amounts of water in your palm and offer it to them as much and as often as they want. I have also tried this on other puppies that had parvo and it worked every time. Good luck and remember it is in the best interest of the pup to get him into the vet at least for a check up. I give my own vaccines. I make sure as soon as pups leave mom to give the first set of parvo vaccines and another in 2 weeks. I have yet to have any parvo problems. It is recomended to give more, but I haven't.

My 1 year old Pit Bull caught parvo and I've been devastated. I took her to the hospital and they gave her an IV with antibiotics and didn't explain anything to me. This is the first dog I've ever owned and I refuse to give up. I've been home with her dripping her mouth every hour and she lost so much weight.

The next day after the hospital, she was worse and on the brink of death. I did some research and basically it's a virus and harms the intestines the worse, among other things, but that is the main concern. IgG or Immunoglobulin-g which is naturally produced in goat colostrum (or the first milk produced by the goat after giving birth), it's rich in protein, energy, vitamins, minerals, and iron. It contains antibodies that eliminate fecal matter in the digestive track. Antibodies are large protein molecules that can only cross the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream. It rebuilds the immune system and helps protect from disease pathogens.

Well long story short, I was desperate so I drove to a goat farm where the people were kind enough to give me 2 pints. My dog could barely open her eyes at this point and wouldn't move any more. I began dripping it into her mouth with a straw until the first pint was finished.

It took about 6 hours. Her eyes opened and life came back into her. I call it liquid miracle. The next day she chugged the whole pint in 1 shot out the bowl. It's like she knew that's what saved her. Then she was back to normal running around, she never threw it up.

This is her tenth day with parvo she's a little down today and I have no more colostrum. I'm going to go try to get some artificial colostrum from the store that has IgG and see if it can compare. I'm not a medical expert just a dog lover and I hope someone can find this useful.

We can't all afford $5000 vet bill, plus my dog has separation anxiety. Its best not to stress them, comfort them, keep them hydrated (Pedialyte and Tamiflu work good). My dog was on her last breath and bounced back so don't ever give up. Keep hope so they keep hope. God Bless.

I have very dear neighbors who run a dairy goat farm, and they've saved many an animal with goat's milk. Because of them we've been able to save quite a few ourselves, including a dog, dumped kittens, and runt bunnies. It's truly wonderful stuff!

June 14, 20150 found this helpful

***If you should decide to seek out goat's milk and you are going to get it from a farm, PLEASE tell the farmer you are fighting Parvo. They will most certainly want to meet you somewhere, rather than risking importing it to their own place. Farmers work so very hard, and they don't need unnecessary extra labor and possible financial loss because they are trying to do someone a good turn.

I hope your pup makes it-take care!

I have a 12week old Pitt he is currently surviving parvo I did have the money to keep him at the vet started administering pedialite with a syringe n eggs
I tblsp pediatlite n 2 tablespoons of raw egg whipped up every 4 hours and 5ml of pepto Bismal 3 times a day depending on weight the dosage after 1 day my dog had life in him again do this for 2day if vomiting has stopped introduce plain boiled chicken and rice only about 2 tablespoons though you don't want them full just enough to keep them alive! if dog vomits back to eggs and pedialite. Give ice cubes so they can lick on them! Do not give up!!!

Ive heard just try keep them hydrated give them goats milk and a raw egg! Pedialyte works really well because it has a somewhat sugar taste! One of the things that worry's me is they could get respitory problems and organ failure! They might require some antibiotics! But not all parvo cases are the same!

Our success story...Constant care for days!! I made it thru this horrible experience with my parents dog ,"Rascal" chihuahua puppy. He was 8 wks old when they got him and he weighed 4 lbs 2 days later he was so sick, vet confirmed it was parvo but they couldn't afford the bill and my mom was scheduled for back surgery in just a couple of days so we decided we were going to try everything we could. The first night of it not knowing how bad it was going to get my parents went to bed as usual and had set their alarm to get up in like 3-4 hrs to check on him and they couldn't find him, finally they found him curled up underneath their couch, he was cold to touch they feared they had already lost him but truth be known now we think he really just was ready to give up and that he meant to die under there. From that moment on we realized how life threatening this was becoming. We did not leave him alone more than just a few minutes at a time and by alone I mean in the room by himself, we kept talking to him and telling him what a good boy he was and I do believe with all the other tactics this kept him fighting. We got a syringe and every 15-20 minutes we gave him water, or pedialite. Yes he would immediately almost throw it back up, Zofran was the stomach medicine my mom takes so we gave him not even a quarter of it, again he started at this @ 4 lbs., about every 8 hrs. Every hour we gave him a syringe of chicken broth, alternating in with water and pedialite, again keeping this going about every 20 minutes, sometimes we could get 2 ml in him and sometimes up to 4. No he did not want anything, we had to hold his mouth open to get syringe in. They had gotten some kind of protein paste that you do daily that we did trying to get some kind of nutrients in and about every 6-8 hrs or so we rubbed some honey in his mouth for sugar. Also layed him on a heating pad with a towel over it on a low setting to keep him warm for first few days. Kinda had to use our best judgment on what when and how often, but I can tell you that this combination of Zofran, water, pedialite, chicken broth, and honey slowly but surely after about 3 hard days and nights of this, he was still hanging on, he was so weak he couldn't hardly get up, he was so dehydrated at one point when we held his mouth open his little lip would stay up. We kept a sheet of paper and wrote down, when we gave him what and how long it stayed in him without coming out one end or the other. The runs went away before the vomiting did. By writing this down we noticed that after those 3 days of fighting, still continuing our routine, he was starting to go longer and longer between throwing up. We learned to look at his gums to judge the dehydration and see how aggressive we needed to be, at one time they were completely white, but by day 4 they started to get a little more pink. As they got pink and the vomiting slowed down, we tried to go longer without giving the Zofran quarter because it was making him so sleepy we couldn't tell if he was regaining any energy. By day 5 & 6 he was coming to the water bowl by himself but only occasionally so we still continued the routine again just having to use our best judgment and how often he was peeing which he was finally doing again after being able to digest some of the things we'd been giving him. By day 7 he was a little more lively, now only 1 pound, we tried everything to get him to eat but seemed like there was nothing he was interested in. A friend of mine put me in touch with a lady who works with our local humane society and I told her what we had been thru and it was just really going to break my heart if we lost him especially now... he was on day seven and my mom was just getting home after spending 3 days in hospital with her surgery....my dad and I took turns staying with him and doing our routine while she was gone. Oh & to tell you how persistent and urgent it was to keep him hydrated the morning he took her, I got up and made it to their house after they'd been gone for a few minutes just to give him his syringe of pedialite, came back home, took my kids to school, and went back for the day, he was in such bad shape we were afraid to even let 2 hrs go by without keeping something in him even if it didn't stay long. But anyway that lady told me that sometimes the smell of cat food would trigger their appetite, so we tried and nothing. She then told me sometimes they would eat a scrambled egg, so I fixed one and he smelled of it but did not want to eat it, about 15 minutes later I was so disappointed that didn't seem to work either, I was eating a McChicken from McDonalds and I took a small piece of it over to let him smell of it and he wanted it, and he wanted more of it!! Finally and the final bit of good news, after getting some things in his belly, he was able to have a normal bowel movement which we were worried about because the parvo virus can destroy their insides. Now I am happy to say he is now 10 months old and he weighs 14 lbs. I have never witnessed such a terrible germ in my life, it was almost like fighting a losing battle we felt several times. Thankful he made it, knowing how hard it was to keep him alive, but we still feel bad now because where we opened his little mouth and stuck that syringe in so many times, he has a place on his mouth that it left, just tiny but still makes us feel bad wondering if we hurt him any while saving him. We heard and read so many things about stuff you could buy off the internet, and other things people had tried, but our combination slowly but surely worked but above all I believe if wouldn't have if we had not been so aggressive with it and kept loving, holding, and talking to him that he would've give up on his own!! My heart hurts for anyone going thru this and I pray I never do again because it was one of the worst weeks of my life but I thank goodness he made it!!!

My mommy instinct kicked in. Green tea, water, and limon, orange slices boiled them for 15-20 min.let cool 20-25 till room temp. Suck up in a kids medicine syringe, I did 5ml 6-8 times daily for dehydration, electrolytic, natural acids to help fight off the nausea. Amoxicillin, oat meal water, and twice a day during hydration I would take a spoon full of creamy penut butter and slowly place it on the roof of mouth until all gone when giving him his fluid. Very important to stay with them pay them good attention let them know there safe and everything will be ok. You will see him better in no time two days he was walking g and running around like his old puppy self I hope this helps. I will know how to act fast now. Just like when my kids are sick.

Regarding Parvo advice on this website, as a veterinary professional I am sickened and horrified to see the ridiculous, dangerous and downright WRONG things that people with no veterinary training or education are telling people to do with their pets! To begin with, in my opinion, if you are not able or willing to make sure you can afford whatever care your pet might need, preventative and treatment, you shouldnt have a pet in the first place. And on top of that, most people do not accept the responsibility to educate themselves on how to prevent illness and disease. Parvo virus is very easy to prevent and usually when a dog gets sick with Parvo it is because the owner has neglected to take the simple precautions necessary to prevent it - keep the puppy away from any unvaccinated dogs and any areas that a dog who is shedding the virus could possibly have been, and HAVE THEM VACCINATED AS SOON AS THE DOG IS OLD ENOUGH!!

All of these home remedies Ive read here being used and described as saving my pups life are dangerous, irresponsible and unbelievably dumb. Garlic is suggested by one person. Garlic is very toxic to dogs. If your dog is already vomiting and has diarrhea, you are making him even sicker giving him crushed garlic. The same goes for lemon juice. Lemon juice has citric acid which is very corrosive and on its own can upset the digestive system plus there are other compounds in lemon juice that will make a dog sick. And here, people repeatedly recommended giving an already very sick animal lemon juice. And worst of all is people with no background in veterinary medicine telling people to administer HUMAN MEDICATIONS TO ANIMALS WITHOUT ADVICE TO DO SO BY A DOCTOR OF VETERINARY MEDICINE!! Many human medications can be toxic or even deadly to animals. And even if a human medication would be okay to give a pet, the dosage and method of administration needs to be carefully determined in order to not cause harm or death to an animal. And BOILING ANTIBIOTICS!?! Whatever medicinal properties the medication might have had were effectively destroyed by putting it in boiling water! If any of these animals who were treated with any of this insane crap actually survived it was DESPITE the treatment they were given or they never had Parvo in the first place!

The best treatment for Parvo is prevention and it is easy and affordable! Keep your puppy away from ALL other dogs until it is old enough to be vaccinated with a shot that costs $20 or less. If you cant do that, you shouldnt have the puppy in the first place. And if your dog gets sick, AT LEAST CALL A VET FOR ADVICE!! Any reputable vet clinic will understand the difficult financial burden of treatment in the clinic and will be happy to give you good, SAFE advice on home treatment for your pet.

I feel sad for these animals who cant care for themselves and it breaks my heart to think about how many of them have died from Parvo without veterinary intervention but I have no sympathy or empathy for the people who turn to a random website and take all the crazy advice from strangers who dont know what they are talking about and may actually be advising people to do things that will make an animal even sicker or actually kill them. The lack of common sense and irresponsibility here is STAGGERING!!
