Replacing the Fabric Seat on an Outdoor Porch Swing?

June 13, 2018

Replacing the Fabric Seat on an Outdoor Porch SwingI have a large outdoor porch swing with a heavy duty metal frame. It needs to have the canvas seat replaced. If I buy the vinyl material used in boat seat upholstery how would I attach it around the metal frame?

If you think you may want to change out the fabric periodically, you could also try heavy duty, outside appropriate Velcro...you would have to use gorilla glue or a wood friendly glue to stick the one side of the Velcro to the wood bottom (least it looks like wood...if I am wrong, then you would need to find a glue that works on the material you are dealing with). Then just match up (and stitch or glue down) the other side Velcro to its mate and you are good to go.

I like using Velcro because it is easier to remove if I have to for cleaning, etc.

Help! We know there are replacements for canopies. We can't find anything for the seat part. Any help would be appreciated before we take the frame to the dump.An old swing with ripped canvas.

Thank you!

If you're handy, you could get some heavy duty fabric and sew on a new cover for just the seat or the back too. You could also drill some holes through the tube frame: front, back, and both ends, and use colored webbing that attaches with screws, and weave a new seat...think folding lawn chair webbing.

You might also consider weaving a new seat with heavy rope, interweaving front to back and end to end, and then putting a cushion over the woven rope to make it even more comfortable to sit on. Good luck and have some fun.
