Reviving the Nap on a Velvet Couch?

I have candle wax on my velvet couch. I got some of the wax off with the iron and paper towel method, but it left the velvet crushed. So how do I get the velvet back to its original texture?

Put an ice cube on it. Leave it until the ice melts and then fluff it up.

You can also try ice cubs on the area to get off the rest of the wax. When the ice melts it is possible to peel off the way. Now let it dry and use a soft brush to brush the area to fluff back up the fibers.

I fixed velvet on a dress once with a hard bristle toothbrush...clean and dry. Gently rub the nap in small circles to fluff it. I hope it works for you! Post back with an update.

Use an ice cube to loosen the remaining wax. Blot the area to remove excess water.
There are several methods that can be used to 'fluff' your velvet but you might want to contact the company (brand) that made your sofa or contact the store where purchased as they usually have blogs available with good instructions on how to do this as well as other useful information.

The reason I suggest this is because there are several different types of material that can be used in making velvet and sometimes the best method for refreshing your velvet could depend on what type of material was used.

The following method is sometimes used.
Fill a steam iron with water and set it to high. Place iron about 1 inch above the spot but take care NOT to touch the iron to the fabric.
Then just move iron above (1 inch) the fabric.
The steam will add enough moisture to help the fabric loosen up and fluff.
You can then use a soft toothbrush to gently brush the fabric against the nap.

The following site has some good suggestions for keeping your velvet sofa looking nice.
