I am in search of my cousins, Eugene Peters and Tunie Kaya Peters. Mother name, Browne Peters, father Moses T Y Peters (deceased). Any ideas on how to begin?

You can try familytree.com. If they havent opted out, you can get a lot of information

If you know what state your relatives reside, you can narrow the search with fewer listings on www.zabasearch.com which is one of my favorite websites.

You should always start your search with your relatives as the more information you have the quicker you will get results.

  • Start with whoever knew any of the people you are looking for because if you find one you may find all. Any relative may have information.

  • this may be a long and very time consuming project but keep good notes about dates, where, how, who from, as you never know what information you may need to lead you to another link.
  • Cities: Born? School? Addresses lived in past? Any of these may provide clues to where they are now.
  • Most important: city/county records may provide clues to marriages because most likely you will be searching for these people under different names than their birth names (marriage names are what you will need) so make special note anytime someone mentions a boyfriend. The mother may have remarried also.
  • Here is a link that has a lot of places to search but you will need to talk with relatives and friends to gather as much background information as possible.
  • You can even obtain a lot of information by just using their names (one name at a time) on search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc.

for free you can find out a lot. Obviously google and whitepages.com

i have however found that a great people search site is pipl.com

also if you hvae any sort of a budget intelius.com is a very useful site and not too expensive. As well peoplefinders.com provides some info but most of the useful stuff is behind a paywall. These last sites will even give you a phone number email and other contact info

I have been finding people for class reunions for years.

Assuming no family has contact and you are starting from scratch:

You need to write down as much as you know. Use real names, but note nicknames, middle names and all possible spellings. If you know spouse names and spouses parents or siblings write those down.

Note bithdays, ages, cities and states they may have lived in, high school name, children's names, hobbies, church affiliations, previous employer, any memories that may be useful make note.

First pass is Google start simple and then add in if the hits are too high. For example, the list of people named Moses Peters came up:

www.instantcheckmate.com/.../?traffic%5Bsource%5D=ICMSEO&firstName...

If this doesn't have anything helpful, don't despair, keep changing up combinations of names and other details.

Also, try Facebook, you can do first and last name, first and middle, first and city.

Try 411.com for last known address...you can even do reverse address if you have a last known address and contact the new owner to see if they know where they moved to.

Try classmates.com if you know high school and yesterday of graduation.

Try legacy.com for all years. Use the advanced feature to put in cities or kids names.

I have found over 300 people. Some are first Google pass. Some I have weeks in and am close, but no cigar yet!

Now if they don't want to be found, it is tough as you may find, message and get ignored. Sadly that you have no control over.

Good luck!
