By preparing meals with foods that are in season you can save a lot of money. Other seasonal deals to look for are meat sales around the holidays. Some examples are:

My suggestion isn't on meats, but check your local grocery's refrigerated mark down section after holidays for their Pillsbury holiday design ready to bake cookies (before holiday, they're $2.xx-$3.xx, After holiday they were .25 cents a can (my most recent great find), this was the smaller can), still a good deal.

Also, our store sells fresh fruits, oranges & apples, by the mesh bag or where you handpick your own, But also, in a brown paper bag with handles (some of the riper fruits at a lower price) check this out, might fit your wallet better than the 'prime' fruits.
