My machine is just sewing long very loose stitches. The tension control is meant to be on auto. It is a Janome, model no. 6260. Any ideas please?

Is this a tension problem or perhaps a stitch problem? It sounds as if the machine is making a type of basting stitch. If you are quite sure this is not the problem then try turning the tension control over to manual and see if the same thing happens. Beyond that, I think you need professional help for this one.
