Treating a Kitten with Eye Discharge?

Treating a Kitten with Eye Discharge - kitten with one eye shutSo my kitten has pus coming out of his eye and it's a little swollen. Also he won't eat or drink anything. This was just when I got home from 6pm I had to go some where important. When I got back his eye was shut and then I think pus was coming out. I'm not sure it's that or what, but I really wanna know is he going to be okay. I have an another kitten that's a little bit older than mine that I'm baby sitting. It has allergies. He has a runny nose and sneezes and has watery eyes, but that one with the allergies is eating and drinking water. And I'm not sure if the one with the allergies clawed my kitten or not, but it kinda looks like it did. I'm not sure.

You could very gently wash his eye with a warm, soft wash cloth, but if it's not better right away, get him to the vet. Try giving him water and kitten milk (NOT cow's milk!) with an eyedropper.

He looks so little. It sounds like the other one might have kennel cough, so it might need to see the vet, too. I adopted two from our local shelter several years ago, and they both came to me with fleas, ear mites, and kennel cough, so they both had to go to the vet.

Sounds like you have your hands full. Take a deep breath.

Can you enlist the help of a family member or a friend so that you or they can get both sick kittens (in separate crates) off to see the vet? Eye issues it is always critical to get quick care to prevent future issues, like blindness.

Be sure to let the kitty's parent (the one you are babysitting for) know what's going on and get his/her OK for which vet his/her kitty is going to see. If I was the mom, I would not want to find out my fur baby had been at the vet without me knowing. Find out if your friend has a charge card for the vet also so that you don't have to worry about the bill or if you are going to need to cover the cost until the parent gets home. Just so you don't go off to the vet unprepared.

You will want to keep them separated going to the vet and when they get home--just for safety sake.

Post back with an update. Prayers for healing.

Kittens can go blind quickly. Take him to the vet and also mention that he is not eating.

It looks like you are correct and the other kitten scratched your cat. He could have gotten the eye of the cat and it is infected now and this is why it is closed. You can try to get some saline solution that we use in our eyes when we have something in the eye to wash out the cats eye with it.

I would make an appointment with the vet and get the eye looked at right away. it does not look good and it is very infected.

It looks to me like your kitten has an upper respiratory infection. These often affect the eyes. They will get a secondary bacterial infection in the eyes, hence the pus you see. Your kitten needs to see a Vet for antibiotics for her eyes. This can lead to blindness. She is not eating because cats will not eat what they cannot smell. Try some stinky food like sardines. She should not go more than 2 days without eating or she risks damaging her liver. Make sure she sees a Vet asap.
