Use Ziplock Bags With Your Handi-Vac

September 15, 2009

An empty ziptop plastic bagThis is for all the folks that have purchased the Reynolds Handi-Vac and now have to find an alternative for their machine. Please DO NOT THROW IT AWAY. Ziploc Brand bags work with your Handi-Vac pump and they cost about a third the price. Any wonder Reynolds thinks it's a good idea to discontinue the bags?

I would close the bag almost all the way, squeeze a straw in the corner, and blow out all the air. Close completely.

You don't blow in, you suck the air out. Just be sure not to suck up any of the liquid or food that you are packaging, especially if it is raw meat or something. It's not as good as a real vacuum sealer but it will work in a pinch.
