I have an electric mattress pad that I put on a timer. It goes on at midnight and off at 9 am. The bed is nice and warm to crawl into, and is cooling off as I wake up. No more forgetting to shut it off after I get up.

Use a lamp timer when cooking with a crock pot and think you don't need the meal to cook all day. Use the lamp timer to start the meal while you are away. Or, do the opposite and use the timer to stop cooking so the meal will not overcook.

For many years we would plug in our tree every evening and then before we went to bed we would unplug it. It finally dawned on us that we could eliminate doing that by using a timer connected to that outlet. Now, like clockwork, our tree goes on at 5 pm and off at 11 pm. Try it, you'll like it.
