Here are a few facts about your encyclopedias

  • Your encyclopedias are considered a rare edition. Therefore, these have historical value.
  • The complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th Edition that was published in 1910 and 1911 is considered the granddaddy of all encyclopedias. These books are the most in depth reference book to date. One reason people seek these books is because they feel it contains the knowledge of the world on the brink of everlasting and deep change. These books were written before the world wars and contain the contents of a worldview lost forever.

  • Your books are the 9th edition and depending on the condition of your books they can sell between $3000 to $4000 for the set, but they must be clean and in good condition to receive this price.
  • I would contact an appraisal house that deals in this type of books. They will be the ones that can tell you the condition of your set and how much it is worth. Just remember these books are highly sought out by collectors if they are in good condition.

This set can be a collectible edition if it is in pristine condition but this set is overall not that easy to sell, even at a lower price. I am not sure what you are referring to with "vol v. I ".

  • Please do not get carried away with the suggestions these books are that valuable as there are listings presently on eBay from $125.00 to $7,999. (9/2017)
  • Here is the set listed for $125 and it looks to be in very good condition. This set has been listed for quite a while and has not sold. This set is listed as pick-up-only and that means the seller will not ship.
  • Here is set that recently sold -$249.00 - but the seller is paying the shipping cost which could be from $25 - $65 dollars or even more and sets are a real pain to ship.
  • Your set may, in fact, be valued at more money but selling it and getting that price is usually only in someone's imagination.

  • Sellers of sets and books like this may keep the set listed for months and months or even years and may still never sell them.
  • eBay and Amazon are the biggest sellers of book on-line so those are the places to check for sold items.
  • Amazon prices are always higher as most of these sellers have thousands of books/sets listed and have a warehouse for storage. They rarely take a book down unless it sells and some may be listed for years and years (honest).
  • if you are interested in selling your set, I would suggest you list it on your local Craigslist and start at whatever price you want and reduce it if it does not sell.

Listings that show up on Google for eBay are many times several years old and are current in any way.

That is the case of the links showing for a set that is supposedly listed for $750.

This listing was posted in 2013 for $750 and did not sell. The seller relisted it for $389.95 and it still did not sell so they stopped listing. Here is the link so look at the date.
