This is not an expensive brand. The expensive pieces are $50 and less

Can you please post a photo of the handles and any design work on the piece--flowers etc.? There are so many HL products out there. With a little more detail, I may be able to help you ID and value it.

Or if you prefer, you can send the photos to Replacements.com and they will tell you the name of the pattern and how much they would pay you for it (which will be much less than retail value--usually 1/4 to 1/8 of retail).

That will give you both the name and value in one shot. I am happy to help if needed!! I am a huge HL fan!

Thanks for the additional pictures. I am stumped. I have been through all of my resources and nothing fits.

My next suggestion is to ask on the Facebook group All Things Homer Laughlin China. You do have to join and answer a few questions and you are NOT permitted to ask about value (I can help you once you ID it).

Please post back what you learn!! I am really curious. My two wonderings are if it is the original lid and if it is a 1900s pattern.

I only say the latter because we thought my grandmothers dishes were all from when she was married, but it turned out she broke a few pieces and ordered the closest matching HL pieces (including a lid for sugar bowl) at several intervals many years later and they were a close match to her pattern (meaning we couldn't tell the difference) but when we went to sell it, we were told by Replacements that we actually had 3 different patterns and the sugar bowl was a Franken piece (two different lines). It was a good learning experience!

Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to hearing more.

Depends on size and condition. The price ranges any where from $12.00 for a small one up to about $159 for a large tureen. Age also plays a part in the value. I am a retired antique dealer.

Here is information I can furnish about this piece.

This is called ironstone and it was manufactured in East Liverpool, Ohio.
This particular mark shows an upside-down British lion in the talons of an American eagle and this mark was used from 1897 until 1900 (some say 1904).

I'm not sure what names were used but I know these are the first name HL used.
White ware
1884 Victor
1896 Golden Gate & Shakespeare
1899 American Beauty
1901 Colonial, Seneca, Niagara
1903 King Charles

Your tureen was made before their dating system started - numbers and letters on the bottom (before 1910).

I believe this would make your soup tureen more valuable than most of the pieces now listed for sale as this puts your piece as a genuine antique.

The reason that most Homer Laughlin is low value is because the biggest place this china was sold was F.W. Woolworth - the 5 and 10 cent store.
Thousands of pieces were sold and are very plentiful on the present market.
Free pieces were also placed in some products - mostly cereal I think.

The biggest selling ware HL made has been Fiesta Ware (started in 1935) and it is still the most sought after on the open market today. Fiesta Ware's value is higher than any other HL pattern.

I would say if you wish to know the value you should try to have it appraised but since it is subject to getting broken, I would try some online sites before taking it on a trip.

Replacements may be able to tell you the pattern and value but the information provided here is pretty accurate as to date.

www.replacements.com/contact-us.htm

Here is a list of reliable free appraisal sites and they usually provide very good information. You will have to provide several very good pictures - from all angles and measurements.

You can also contact the company;

Please post back with any information you receive.
