Value of a Vintage Magnavox Record Player?

Value of a Vintage Magnavox Record Player - turntable and radio in a flip top box
Vintage record players range widely in value. Factors that determine resale value include configuration, ie. tabletop, console, etc. Their physical and working condition also plays a large part. Searching for similar players being sold on eBay and other sites can help you reach an estimated value. Parting them out is another option.

I have this 1965 Magnavox that is in mint condition. Needle is perfect, speakers sound crystal clear, listen to the AM/FM wonderfully or throw on a vinyl.

Any idea what it could be worth?

Usually, with items like this, the only way to find 'value' is to post it for sale and see if someone makes an offer.
The final value will be determined by where you are located, as these are too costly to ship.

Take a look at what is currently listed for sale on eBay and you will see that all listings state 'free local pick up'. For sale prices are just a price the seller would like to receive for their item but only a sold item shows what someone was willing to pay for that item.
You can also place a watch on any item to see if it sells. Many of these listings have been listed for sale for months/years and most likely, will never sell.
www.ebay.com/.../i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524...

here is the link to eBay's sold listings so you can see what has sold over the past several months.
www.ebay.com/.../i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=magnavox+console...

This listing is from over 3 years ago and did not sell but the seller has provided an excellent description that you could use should you decide to sell your console.

Notice there were no offers?
reverb.com/.../20573742-magnavox-astro-sonic-phonograph...

if you decide to list it for sale, you should start at a higher price, accept offers and leave it listed for several weeks/months. If you receive no offers, then lower the price and wait again.
Good places to list would be Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, and any other site that has local listings.

I have a 1971 vintage Magnavox record player with sliding top console. The condition works like it was in production yesterday.

Just trying to figure out how much it would be worth.

It is really difficult to provide value information on a console (any brand) as the final value will be determined by where you are located and what reaction the community has to vintage consoles.

Consoles are big and very heavy and rarely will anyone pay to have one shipped.
This means they are advertised as 'local pick up only'.
Some areas have room for items like this and other areas have no desire to own anything like this.
You probably do not know what your area likes or dislike unless you have been checking sites like Craigslist, USA4Sale, or Facebook Marketplace to see if any are selling any similar consoles in your area.

I can only recommend that you take good pictures and list your console on similar sites to see what the market is in your area.
Start your price high - $2,000 - $2,500 - with offers considered and local pick-up only.
Leave it posted for several weeks and if you receive no offers, lower the price and wait again.

This is the same model console as yours and is listed for $100.

It may not sell for even that low amount.
However, this is an excellent example of how your pictures should look and a good description. Pictures sell an item.

If it is stand alone, about $25. If it is in a fancy cabinet, it is about $200.

Sorry but the model numbers do not tell us anything about what type of system you have. As far as I have found there is no number list with system information going back before about 2008.

  • From my own personal research it does appear there are systems with similar numbers (mostly consoles) so your model number is probably accurate.
  • Since we do not know what type of system you have you may just want to look at current listings on eBay and maybe get an idea of what other sellers are listing and their asking prices (maybe dream prices).
  • The value will depend on the style, working condition, overall condition, market at the moment, and very important - where the system is located (city/area).
  • You will find that most sellers will have "pick up only" with their listings as any of these systems would usually be too costly to ship so different areas of the country may be more interested than others.
  • Although some will sell for the asking price, most will not. You can place a "watch" on any similar systems to see if they sell.

The first cabinet is a 1970s Magnavox Drum Table Stereo Radio Phonograph, model 3471. I found an advertisement for these tables, and there is your model (under the letter D) "Contemporary with grained Pecan finish" www.automaticwasher.org/.../112561++1-26-2012-19-48-34.jpg, www.popscreen.com/.../MAGNAVOX-DRUM-STEREO-CONSOLE-SLIDEOUT...
One of these models dates from 1971 www.worthpoint.com/.../1971-magnavox-drum-table-stereo-radio...

Magnavox Drum Consoles were designed to blend in as an end table as well as match the popular octagon shaped living room furniture of that time.

Vintage Magnavox Drum Console not in very good condition sold for $17 www.ebth.com/.../1642572-vintage-magnavox-drum-console
Vintage Working Magnavox Drum Style Console Stereo With Turntable was auctioned for $33 bid.aumannauctions.com/.../2948640?url=%2Fm%2Fview-auctions...
The price of another 1970's Magnavox Drum Console Stereo is $189 thebarnridley.com/.../
Another Magnavox Drum Console (End Table With Receiver Record Player AM / FM Radio With Receipt) is on sale for $500 www.ebay.com/.../303834828643

The front of your second cabinet is not visible in the photo, so it is difficult for me to determine which model you have. Most likely this is also a 1970s model. I found similar models dating back to the 1970s:
Vintage Magnavox Console 8 Track / Record Player / Radio, sold for $150 picclick.com/Vintage-Magnavox-Console-8-Track...,
1975 Magnavox Venetian console stereo instappraisal.com/.../1975-magnavox-venetian-console-stero.

The price of these cabinets varies depending on the condition and demand (shipping, as you understand, is very expensive). You do not write whether your consoles are in working order. If they are in working order and not damaged (the photos are really not the best quality), then you can start with a high price and then lower it, or try to auction it off.

I have this old Magnavox chest that opens with a record player and radio inside and speakers in the lid. I'm wondering about the rarity and if it's worth anything.

I've searched and seen no others like it. Anyone know?

I have found one tabletop Magnavox record player listed on eBay for sale. I know it is not exactly like yours and the front of it is very different. However, this person is asking $225 for the record player he is trying to sell. Here is the link to the one listed. www.ebay.com/.../184025352585?hash=item2ad8c40989....

Not finding the exact same record player can be a good thing a lot of time. That means they are harder to find and people might be interested in the one you have. You can try listing this on several sites and see if anyone would be interested in buying it from you. You did not say if it is working or not. If it is working you can ask a higher price for this and then lower your price if someone makes an offer and you are willing to sell it for this price.

Please add photos, I think you are confusing something, since I only found this Magnavox antique radio phonograph model 256m
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZSzMRVwcws
But since there is no more information about Magnavox of such a model, and on this site too www.radiomuseum.org/.../magnavox_fm13.html
then I think you have Magnavox of other model.

Record player and radio combos in wood cabinets are asking $225 or so on eBay. Since you did not submit a picture, I dont know if this is what you have.

Sorry, but we will need pictures of the unit as well as a picture of the information on the back, as that is what research is all about.
Date? Looks like 1955.

This may be your unit:

Since you wrote that this is a tube record player/radio, I think you have a Magnavox with Webster-Chicago turntable, and Model 256 belongs to the turntable specs, like this Magnavox Model 151H with the turntable specs Model 256-19

You can ask for help on the forum of this specialized site

256M is model number of the Webster-Chicago record player inside your vintage Magnavox stereo.
'Record changer companies rushed designs in 1948 - 1951 to get something on the market for all new speeds and sizes. This was Webster-Chicago's top of the line 356 - the first 3-speed 3-size changer.' midimagic.sgc-hosting.com/chanstrg.htm

Here is 1948 Magnavox CR-198H Radio Console with a Webster-Chicago 256 Record Player

You need to look again at your console and find the model number of the Magnavox or add photos of it.
