What Breed Is My Dog?

We adopted this shepherd mix from a rescue. We want to know what the other 1/2 is? Anyone have any ideas?

Our dog looks like your dog. Our dog is German Shepard and beagle.

Odds are that your dog isn't simply a 1/2 and 1/2 mix. People always look for that answer. There could easily be 4 or more different breeds in there. That's all the better for you and eliminating breed specific health issues for your dog.

It's a little hard to see from the pic because the dog is sitting but with thin legs, slender head and a narrowish face; there could be some Doberman in there. When Dobi's in a mix, the dog usually looks more like some other breed than the Dobi. Similar happens with whippets and greyhounds but the dog looks a little solid to be one of those mixes.

The face looks a little like a CorgiX with Shep in there but the dog's size may be too big for that to be realistic.

If the hair is shorter there could also be some pitbull mixed in there somewhere. Or someone in the gene pool could easily be a lab/pit mix. Not that the dog is half pit but may very well be a little pit in there somewhere and that's not a bad thing!

The best way to identify breeds is to look at the dog standing, walking, etc. You get a lot more info about the structure that way, you see how the tail hangs, etc. You can;t make an accurate assessment by just looking at the face.

Hope this gives you some info to start searching with. At any rate; enjoy the dog!

Check with your vet, he/she can do a wisdom panel.
