What Breed is This Dog?

I found this dog over a week ago and haven't found his home. So, we are going to keep him unless we find his owner.

I was curious what breed he is? He is super sweet, does great with my other dogs, and my two year old daughter.Dog lying in dog bed with a black Lab.

He's gorgeous, but then I'm partial to Boxer-German Shepherd mixed dogs after being an AKC Boxer breeder 40+years (before my permanent move to the UK) and many years of breed rescue:)

Have a look at this image search to see what this cross looks like:

www.google.co.uk/search?newwindow=1&hl=en&site=imghp...

Of course you'll want to check with a vet, who will do a check to be sure your cross hasn't any of the inherited problems (mainly undescended testicles and hip dysplasia) of the two breeds, and he/she will also check for a chip - such a sweet dog may have a human companion (quite possibly a child) who is missing this fellow dreadfully.

If no chip, congratulations on lucking into one of the best Boxer mixes out there - Boxer-GSD cross dogs are generally healthy, super intelligent, very loving, and easily educated as to proper family&public social duties (as in no biting unless the family is genuinely threatened, etc).

Browse the web and your local libraries for free training tips or enroll him ASAP into an 'obedience' programme, and be prepared to need to keep him busy - both breeds are very active and need play-work-exercise on a daily basis to prevent breed specific behaviours turning to boredom expressed inappropriately (like eating the sofa - lol, ask me how I learned that one!).

This cross likes to feel they have a job to do and will 'self-assign' home and bodyguard dog duties so be sure he is trained to follow your directions immediately. Because many people will see him as intimidating, you and he will be happiest if he is crated when unfamiliar people visit, and is always kept on a lead in public. If he seems 'nippy' you might also want to consider a humane muzzle system (Halti are the best).

I'm not sure exactly but he looks a lot like there's a bit of German shepherd. You will be blessed for your kindness and compassion. God bless you for helping this baby. Love your hearts... (wishing there were more in this world like these good people)
