House Training an Older Puppy?

I have had Shih Tzu's forever. They are wonderful with families and children and other pets. So friendly it's scary. a bundle of hugs and cuddles. However, they are also stubborn. If they don't want to do something, it's almost impossible to make them.

Years ago, my vet told me to buy tiny dog cookies and break them into 4 smaller pieces. Every time he "goes" outside, he gets a treat. Take him out very often at first so he gets the message.

Since a Shih Tzu is also very intelligent, when he goes in the house, show him a cookie and say something like "not this time, you have to go outside for a cookie":

You might also try to take him for a walk when you know it's time for a potty break. (make sure you take a baggie with you just in case. : ) As for walking on the grass, that's a toughy. someone else will have to help you with that one.
