Avoiding Fast Food Drive Throughs

I carry a thermos (picnic kind) of kool-aid or Iced Tea with me when running errands or picking up kids and I pack cheap snacks from the dollar store. I have saved a lot of money not going to drive-throughs anymore.

Congratulations on avoiding drive-throughs. Next consider adding some fruits and veggies to your cheap snacks. Those snacks are a disaster nutritionally.

One of the worst things is going out after eating a meal & having a child complain "hungry, thirsty!" anyway. In case I don't plan ahead, I have a supply of cookie packs in the car & a couple "juice" boxes which kids will drink at room temp. most of the year. The "emergency" snacks must be non-perishable so they're available when needed. The cookie packs or other snacks are healthier than the fast food & alot cheaper! Just enough to allow time to finish errands & have happy kids.

Then they get home & eat a healthy meal. In summer I plan ahead with iced drinks in a cooler, then maybe add some healthier snacks, too. If you're shopping or near a grocery you can buy a banana/apple & even a small drink or pack of juice boxes & that will keep their tummies full for a while. Much better than the fast food! The emergency snacks really came in handy in an auto accident when we had to wait 4-ever!

Monika, I found I have lost 15 pounds lately. I realized it is because I have had a couple of surgerys and illness and haven't been able to go to the fast food places. I think I will keep it up. I need to lose weight!!! I do bring iced water with me whenever I go out.(my kids are grown LOL)
