Pour a fragrance oil into the water though it isn't going to affect the carpet any, but may smell good during vacuuming.

If you want fragrance in the carpet, use a baking soda with fragrance you can buy at Family Dollar around $2.00 and lightly sprinkle and leave sit on carpet 15-20 mins. prior to vacuuming. You could also spray over the carpet with aerosols like Lysol, and other scented fragrances. Fabreeze is a popular item as well as scented candles and Glade oil plug ins.
