Bathroom Sink Plug Keeps Rusting?

The plug hole and plug is very rusty on my bathroom sink even though I replace the plug every week, rust appears as soon as water connects to plug. Also after washing my face in bathroom sink it is very red and feels like it has been burnt. Could the water be contaminated? The plug in the bath is fine.

Perhaps you need plumbing replaced under the sink. If this continues to rust, then consult a plumber or your town's water company as you have a serious issue taking place.
