Bee Jar Trap

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 433 Posts

Punch a hole in a jar lid about as wide as your pinky finger. You want the bee to be able to get in but not crawl out as easy. Fill the jar half full of orange juice. Smear some jam under the lid.

Seal jar with lid and put it in the yard where there is little traffic. They will crawl in and drowned. This will also work for fruit flies.

Editor's Note: As many of the ThriftyFun community have pointed out, bees are essential for pollinating home and commercial gardens and should not be killed unless absolutely necessary.

Please do not kill bees. They will not hurt you if you move slowly among them. Where have you been when the news tells about the shortage of bees in the world? We need them to pollinate our plants. Why would you want to kill them? If you have a fatal allergy to them live in the city or get the series of shots that will immunize you against the sting.

Most people go through their lives never or rarely getting stung. Please do not kill bees. I love bees. I like to sit among my flowers and watch them work.

Why on earth would you want to kill bees? We are dependent on them for survival. There would be no plant life without bees. Without plant life, no oxygen for all of us. Please rethink what you are doing. We need to respect all creatures, they are here for a reason.

Oh, please do not kill the bees. We need them as they are becoming less. Fruit flies be my guest getting rid of them, but not our much needed bees.

I so agree with the other posters. When I see a bee in my garden, I rejoice because they help pollinate the flowers, among other things. Certainly you have read about the shortage of bees!

I'm sure that this is a good hint for someone who is allergic to bees, who is sitting outdoors. But perhaps one could lure the bees away, rather than kill them, by placing ripe fruit some distance from where one is sitting, where they could munch away, without drowning.

I agree with the need for bees crowd. Try to avoid, not kill, the bees. Let them do their work.

I so am agreeing with the other posts. In our garden and flower beds, we do not use any kind of chemicals. Bees are so important. I, also, love to see them work. Please stop killing the bees.
