Craftsman Riding Mower Won't Start?

I have a Craftsman T2200 model 917.203811. I was mowing and half way through it died, like it ran out of gas. I checked that it had plenty of gas. I had just purchased some and put it in. I checked and the oil it was full and clean. I checked the fuel line and the bulb had gas in it. I blew off the excess grass, cleaned the deck, and even gave it time to maybe cool off. Then I checked for loose connections; all is clear. The blade up clutch is in place in the chock position. When I turn the key it acts like it wants to start, but doesn't. There is no smell like being flooded and no backfiring, it just acts like it's out of gas. Could it be the carb maybe.?

I had a car that always stalled. It was the carburetor.
