Finding the Value of Antique and Vintage Furniture - table with attached candle holderI have an oak table with attached candlestick holder; mid century bedroom set; antique adjustable dress form, and a Turkish fireplace. My mom gave me these things and I am trying to down size and am not sure what to ask in order to sell - can someone help?

The French Provincial bedroom set is similar to my childhood set. We had to give it away after our mother died. No one wanted it. The oak table with the candlestick looks like and original crafted by someone. I personally dont think it is worth much, but I could be wrong. You could take the picture to a dealer and get a free verbal appraisal. Dress forms are still used and in demand. I would ask $50 to start. I have no idea about the fireplace. Hopefully someone else knows.

If you are trying to sell for value, your Turkish fireplace (Brazier) is probably the most valuable piece of what you have, but as you will see below...you have two "wild cards".

The Braziers are consistently selling on eBay in the high $50 range....although if yours is more than 30 inches tall, it would fetch up to $100, especially if it is in as good a shape inside as it appears on the outside.

To advertise it right, you can use this eBay auction as a guide:

www.ebay.com/.../264375126031?hash=item3d8dfc480f...

There has been a resurgence of French Providential furniture in some parts of the east coast now..and they are consistently selling on eBay (from Maine to FLA). I don't think they are popular in the middle and western parts of the country--but you would need to talk to a vintage dealer in your town to give you the best values for your town.

For example in this popular zone, your low boy dresser would fetch around $50 also (although it depends on condition....I can tell that the little night table looks to be in rough shape....so if the low boy is in rough shape also, you may get $30-40 for both (so $15-$20 each).

Does the headboard have all the slats and screws and such? These don't fetch much where I am...but again, it depends on where you are. In that same east coast zone, maybe $10-$25.

Your wild cards are that little oak table and the dress forms.

Dress forms are all over the place in value from $10 to the hundreds. This would need a reputable vintage dealer to tell you if you have something valuable or something common--very much usual but of little value. The metal one may be more valuable...but value is based on brand and condition and I can't tell either from the photo.

The little table I just can't figure out...is the metal candle thing attached to it or just that little side swirl that looks like a wooden ice cream cone? If you can offer more info on that, I am really curious.

Bottom line is how to sell and next steps...unless you have many hours to devote to selling all of this...it can take months...this is from me (who has been selling stuff for more years than I can count). You also need to know what is popular in your area and how much people pay for things WHERE YOU ARE!

I suggest finding a good resale shop or estate sale company that will either sell for you on consignment or buy outright and sell. You won't get the "retail" prices (the values I was giving you for what people actually PAY for items in the wild, but you will get a percentage AND you will get your space back.

Post back with an update!

Some twist tables have a rather high value on them. Your twist table looks pretty rustic but I'd still do some checking before pricing it in a low range.

One source to check for prices is eBay. You could also get advice from antique dealers in your area.

I am just fascinated by the table because if the metal thingy is NOT attached to it, I have never seen one with the candle stick on the side.

I finally found one that looks similar and it is being auctioned for over 1000!

Not that is NOT a sold price, it is an asking price...but still...there is something special about it.

Yours looks well loved so it may not fetch as much, but I would defiantly take it to an antique store and have them check it out. It may be an 18th century piece!!!!

Please, please, please post back with more info!! I love it when I have not seen something before and it turns out to be super neat-o!!!

There is nothing metal on the table - I just have a lamp sitting in it . Its in quite good shape and has a candlestick holder that is at the end of the arm that pokes out. The candlestick holder snapped off, but I gave the pieces to glue. Can I send you more pictures at an email address? I cant upload a photo from here and dont know how to navigate in this app to well. Thank you! Michele

Thanks for posting back with more photos!! Talk to an antique shop owner before trying to repair. They can tell you the best way to proceed! I am not sure how the damage will devalue the piece. It is so cool!! Please keep me posted as you learn more and sell off the pieces!! Blessings!!!

Lots of information here.
I believe your best bet with your furniture - bedroom set and headboard - would be a yard sale as French Providential that is not an antique and/or in excellent shape does not usually command a very high price.
This style is so available in new furniture - nice and clean with no nicks etc - that it is difficult to interest anyone in paying very much for 'used'.
As to the headboard the value may depend on what other parts you have and whether it is a queen or king as double beds are not as popular as they were in the past.
You might could list these on Craigslist, USA4Sale or any other site that has 'pick up only' available in the listings. If you do this you could ask a higher price and lower it if not sold after a few weeks.
You would need several good pictures or they may not sell at any price.

The candle stand is another matter and it may be in good structural condition but it does need a lot of TLC if a good price is to be had.
This type of stand is called 'Barley Twist' and is quite popular.
I'm not sure about the breakage but hopefully it can be fixed properly even if you did not do a 'professional' job on the repair.
You might could list this for sale in the same type sale sites but I'm not sure you would be able to sell it for what some of the online action sites are going for.
If it is cleaned and posted with several good photos, you could probably sell it for several hundred dollars.
It is a candle table but often referred to a a plant stand.

Here are a couple of links that show tables like yours.
These tables are in excellent condition but I still feel your table has good potential to sell for a higher than normal 'yard sale' price.
Also remember, these are the seller's asking prices and true value is only when an item is sold so maybe you can place a 'watch' on these items to see if they happen to sell anytime soon.

I did mean to mention that your 'arm' has a broken top but it may still bring a good price because this Barley Twist is popular.
