Fruit Fly Trap

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts

fruit flies in trapI absolutely hate fruit flies! This trap is very easy to make and works really well. I always have this trap set up on the counter, so an infestation never has a chance to take hold. :)

  9. Using a toothpick, poke holes into the plastic so the flies can get in.
  10. poking holes with tooth pick

  11. Place your trap near any fruit you have out on the counter. Goodbye fruit flies!

NOTE: I change out my mixture about every 2 weeks, more often if I am catching a lot of fruit flies.

You can use apple cider vinegar as well!

Does the dishwashing liquid have to be Dawn or would any dishwashing liquid work?

A friend taught me this one, several years ago. I made a little one out of a straight-sided pill bottle (of which I had plenty around!) so I could empty it often without wasting a lot of vinegar, but I never thought of using plastic wrap to cover it! I just propped it up at an angle so the flies could get in it easily, but it was hard to prop it securely. So the cover is an ingenious addition! Btw, I used apple cider vinegar in mine.

You don't even need the dish soap. Just use a small jar and poke small holes in the lid, fill half way with apple cider vinegar and water and let it do the magic. Flies go in but can't get out.

Thanks for sharing. That looks so much better than a cup with plastic wrap or some other fruit fly traps I have seen. I will try this next time.
