I have a nightstand where a humidifier turned an area white. My guess is it is from the heat from the humidifier. It's not white dust that can be cleaned. How can I repair this?

Try using a double layer tea towel and place over the area. Next heat the iron on high level and iron over the tea towel stroking across 3-4 times and lift towel to check if mark is lightening up. I watched a person perform this and it lifted the entire marking after several attempts it lessened the mark to nothing seen. I'm going to try the tea towel/iron/heat on my sewing cabinet to see if it will lift the heat mark on it.
Sometimes one remedy will work better on one type of finish so you might have to try more than one suggestions.
Try using a clean damp cloth or paper towel and moistened it with a little mayonnaise and rub it into the spot until the white ring disappears. You might want to let it sit 15-20minutes; wipe with a clean paper towel to blot up any excess oil. Polish if spot is gone.

I gently rubbed quite a large spot with 000 steel wool and the stain is completely gone. Then I used a furniture restorer on the entire top of the cabinet.
