It is a type of wing chair. Look under the cushions and beneath the chair for identifying markings.

These are lovely. I have always called these Victorian Clamshell Parlor chairs. I am not sure if that is the official name.

Dating chairs is difficult without a lot more info.

Do you know what they are stuffed with--like does it feel crunchy like horse hair or solid like foam?

How is the underside finished?

Do you know if they have been reupholstered?

Is the wood walnut or oak?

My guess would be they are from the 1940s...but that is just at first look without all of the details.

This style of chair is hit or miss in the value department, at least where I am. My best suggestion would be to take them (in person is best) to a good vintage furniture dealer in the city nearest to you and get them to help you confirm the facts and give you a value in your town.

Post back with an update!! Thanks for sharing!

Really neat chairs.
I think these may be earlier than the 40's but just a guess.
I think these were also called 'fan back' chairs but probably the most familiar would be wingback chairs.

You can always find somewhat similar chairs on eBay but probably not something to compare.

Something this unusual will probably take an expert to be able to recognize all of the features and give you the information you are looking for.
Maybe you have a dealer in your area that can see it and has some knowledge of this type furniture. This may be difficult if you do not live in or near a large city. I would make a phone call before taking this nice chair on the road and find out the dealer has to research to find information.
Also, not too many dealers are very interested in giving 'free' information.

I'm a firm believer in free online appraisals as I use them often and receive quite a lot of information. I also believe you should probably have an appraisal for insurance purposes.
If you decide to use one of these sites then I would suggest using several sites as some information will vary.

You will need several really good pictures: full front, full back, closeup of wood arms, closeup of legs/feet. Measurements also. Be sure to look for any markings/numbers as well.
Also; provide answers to the questions Pghgirl ask about.
Provide any information on provenance that you have as any dates, cities, countries may help with the ID.

Here is a link to free sites:

This site charges $20 but provides excellent results.
