Identifying Black Jumping Flies?

A fly on a white surface.Over the last week, I have noticed these small black flies inside our house, mostly on the windows. I have tried just spraying them but they come back within a day. They tend to crawl or jump but can fly. Does anyone know what they are? I'm in the UK. Thank you!

These likely are springtails. They are attracted to moisture, so often found in bathrooms, near drainboards and sinks, etc. Ensure that your screens are fitted properly with no holes and that sashes are secure. Also remove or cover any sources of water around windows and doors. Inside, that might include pet water bowls (just don't place them near windows and doors) or dishwater; outdoors, forgotten pails, toys, birdbaths and such. It also will help to remove foliage near windows.

Thank you, I will try all of these!

Springtails do not have wings and do not fly, although they jump

I think this is Auchenorrhynca
The Auchenorrhyncha is suborder of the Hemiptera. It contains most of the familiar members of what was called the "Homoptera" groups such as cicadas, leafhoppers, treehoppers, planthoppers, and spittlebugs.

Probably of the Cicadellidae family (Leafhoppers).

There are many Auchenorrhyncha species commons.wikimedia.org/.../File:Auchenorrhyncha_species.jpg

They could be gnats. Try to trace where they are coming in from the outside and use an insecticide to get rid of the nest.

Thank you, I looked up gnats I'm not sure that they are based on their appearance but will try a fruit trap just incase.

Having read the part about you are in the UK. That means you do not have any covering of your open windows , no mesh screens , I know I lived in England for 20 years, unless you have a really modern house, so you are out of luck with them flying into your house . I would suggest you get the hanging sticky fly paper, it attracts them, atleast you will not have them buzzing around. Good luck !!

They are not really flyers, seem to do more crawling thank you that will be my last resort as hoovering them up isn't stopping the problem.

They are Drain Flys.. I had the same issue.. Block off all your drains when not using them.

They nest in your sink pipes, they are always jumping yes and can swim up and down your drain.
