It could be a fishtail palm.

It is not a houseplant. It is not a fishtail palm. It has not got shiny, thickish leaves.

The picture resembles skunk cabbage leaf. There are a bunch of varieties. Does it smell like skunk spray if you bruise a leaf?

No, it's not skunk cabbage, it is not large enough and it does not smell when crunched. Thank you for trying though.

Sorry but I just cannot think of what this could be.
I'm hoping one of our "plant" members will come along and clue us in.

You can send this picture (and a picture of the stems of the plant) to one of these agencies in your state/county and they can probably help you.
