Identifying an Old Porcelain Doll?

Identifying an Old Porcelain Doll - cloth bodied porcelain dollI received a tub of dolls from my grandma's house. I am trying to identify them. I cannot find markings. Can anyone help identify this doll? I took the clothes off because I believe my grandma made the ones on her body.

Go to www.dollreference.com. They have reference sheets with markings and a forum where you can post questions and pictures.

I suggest taking her to a good vintage store and having her examined by a professional.

I have been learning about German Low Brow STYLE dolls.

This is an article about Hertwig dolls, which my understanding are the original low brow dolls....made between 1864-1941.

The challenge is either in the 1960s or 1970s craft stores sold "knock off" low brow style doll heads, hands, and feet and home sewers put them together. Just based on the condition (really nice) of your gal, you may have this type of doll.

That said, I AM NOT an expert, and your gal could have been well kept and could be original so it will take a much more experienced person to tell you if you have a real low brow doll...which can be quite valuable, or a kit dolls, which still has some value, only much less than an original.

Post back what the experts tell you!! I am interested to learn more since I am fascinated by this style of doll! Thanks for sharing!

This type doll is so neat and usually has a lot of history - even if we are unable to find out everything they are still fascinating.

There are so many variables that only an expert can identify whether this is an original or if it is made from a kit.

The doll is lovely and if you really want to know everything about this doll you will need to ask the experts.

This is a doll forum site that just loves to identify this type of doll so take a couple more pictures - back and another head shot and post it. You will need to give the length of the doll and any provenance you know about.
Please let us know what you find out as many will be interested.
