Kitchen Paint Color Advice?

Let me start by saying I can only afford paint. With that said, my kitchen has horrible lighting. My cabinets are medium birch, the appliances are stainless, counters cream, and the floor beige. Are you gagging yet? I need a wall color that will brighten the room. I have a yellowish gold walls and it's not working. Help!
