New Upper Denture Hurts?

Yesterday I got my permanent upper denture and no longer need Polygrip. Today the gum sides were sore and it hurt when I took a bite into my sandwich. Will this eventually go away or should I go back to the dentist? I do have an appt in 2 weeks just for a check up.

You were used to the temporary dentures and the Polygrip. However, permanent dentures are different and will take a little time to get use to them. Here are a few things you can try for soreness.

  1. You can buy some Orojel and apply this to your sore gums. It can help in relieving the soreness and pain in your gums.
  2. Also you can try to wash your mouth out with some warm salt water a few times a day.
  3. Depending on how fast your heal you can experience soreness in your gum anywhere from 2 to 10 months.
  4. If you are in a lot of pain call the dentist.

  6. See if you can make an appointment before the 2 weeks.
  7. The dentist can adjust your dentures and add a soft layer to the inside of the dentures to help your gums heal faster.

It does take time to get used to dentures. 2 weeks is a good amount of time to see if they are OK. Do mention it to your dentist at your checkup. He or she will be able to adjust them.

It takes some time to adjust. By your follow up appointment, if the soreness still persists definitely let your dentist know.

It's common to be sore and takes your gums some time to adjust. You could rinse your mouth with warm water + salt to help ease the pain.

Your follow up appointment, if soreness still persists your dentist can make any adjustments needed or check up on the status of your healing.

Do eat soft foods, perhaps avoid bitting where it is sore for you.
