These make great rolls at the holidays or any time. Very soft and tasty!

Total Time: 35-40 minutes

Yield: 24 rolls


  • 1/2 cup margarine ($.40)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup instant oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 4 cups flour


  1. Put first 4 ingredients in large mixing bowl.
  2. Stir in 1 1/2 cup boiling water. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add yeast and stir to dissolve.
  4. Add egg and 2 cups flour. Stir well.
  5. Add 2 cups flour. Knead well. Rise to double. Let rise again.
  6. Bake 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees F.

These are yummy and soft. Great for breakfast or a fancy meal. Very good!


  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup quick oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 cups flour


Pour boiling water over oatmeal and margarine. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Add yeast, egg, molasses and salt. Gradually add flour; beat well.


Knead lightly. Let rise until double in bulk. Make like into cinnamon rolls (butter, sugar and cinnamon spread on the dough). Let rise again. Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees F. While warm, glaze with powdered sugar icing flavored with almond.
