I have just moved in and there is power to the meter, but not to the house. What could be the problem?

Call the utility company. There may be a problem on their end.
Have you had power since you took ownership or is this a new problem?
If you have not had power since you moved in, you may want to verify with the electric company that they got the turn on request.
If you had power and it is off now, first check with the electric company to make sure something wonky did not happen on their end and confirm with them if you need to call a private electrician or if they have someone they can send--and how much it will cost.

Check the breaker panel to see if the big "Main" breaker is pulled out or the switch is in the off position- depends on your electric panel type. Either one of those will cut off the power IN the house but still have power to the meter.
