Removing Dye Transfer from Dried Clothing?

I put a wet hot pink top in the dryer with loads of other clothes and when I took it out it had these dark blue/purple stains all over it. I looked up ways to get them out, but all of them say you can't put it in the dryer, but I already have. How do I get these stains out?

You can try filling a 5 gallon pail with hot water. Add to that 2T each dishwasher powdered detergent and hydrogen peroxide. Soak overnight and wash in the morning

I had luck with a cotton poly blend sweater that had the same issue by leaving it sit overnight in a bucket of cold water with 3 quarts of water and 2 cups white vinegar...then wash normally (LINE DRY...NO NOT DRY IN THE DRYER AGAIN UNTIL THE STAINS ARE GONE).

If it does not work the first time, repeat but this time add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the mix. It will fizz up. But that is ok. Hope you have success like I did.

I like Pghgirl40's suggestion - sounds like it might work.

  • It is difficult to say very much as the type of material will make a big difference in what might work.
  • You may be able to try the suggestions but maybe repeating more than once before washing and never put in dryer until all color run is gone.
  • A product called Color Run Remover might work (if used more than once) (not color grabber). Sold at most stores or online.

  • If your garment is cotton you may also be able to a mixture of 2 Tablespoons Oxiclean in a bucket of water and let soak overnight.
