Repairing a Singer Sewing Machine Foot Pedal?

My Singer sewing machine pedal is very stiff and makes a loud popping sound when depressed. It was a second hand buy so I don't know if this was an issue when it was new or not. Is there any way of fixing this?

I would replace the entire foot pedal, if I were you.

If this is an electrical popping noise, I would probably toss it and get a new one.

If it is metal to metal popping noise, you may have a pin or pins or thread or dust stuck in the mechanism causing it to rub. This is usually an easy clean. Some people swear by canned air (I find it makes it worse). I use a thin brush...like what comes with an electric razor and use it (sweep away from the machine) to clean out the petal.

There are lots of YouTube videos if you need guidance on cleaning the petal.

Post back with an update.
