Selling a Porcelain Doll Collection?

How do I contact a list of buyers for the collections my mother left me? I need to sell them.

There are any options for selling dolls.

Do you know the history of the dolls? While many were mass produced, there are always some of value still out there. I hate to see people taken advantage of when they don't know the history of the pieces they are trying to sell.

Ideally, if you had time, you could type the maker/doll name of each doll into eBay's search engine, click on sold (never use asking price, just the actual sold price) that button is on the left side of screen. That will give you an idea how much each doll is worth.

With that info you decide if you want to go the eBay or Etsy or other selling route... either as singles or as a lot and how to price your sale.

If that is not an option, try to find a local antique or consignment store and ask them to make an offer. You can tell them you are gathering information and... if you can...try to obtain 3 offers...and accept the highest offer.

A few hints (especially if you are going to sell online):

To locate the doll names, many are imprinted on the back of the head/ neck, the lower back, tush, or foot

If you can't find a name, try to describe the doll in the search engine..for example vintage blonde doll 18 inches, hard plastic. Be sure to find an exact match...this is one time when close enough is not useful

Be honest in your assessment about condition. If there are stains, marks, rips, tears, etc list it in the ad. Never say something is pristine or excellent unless it was never out of the package. True collectors take those words seriously and get very unhappy if it doesn't meet their standards

Tell people you are not an expert (if you aren't) and be sure to take clear and close photos sothey can gauge condition on their own... photograph the flaws as part of the mix

Give as much history as you know...like year purchased, if it was played with or just on display, has a certification of authenticity, etc

If your home or where they came from was a smokers home be sure to list that. People get angry if a purchase arrives smelling of cigarettes

If you need further guidance about selling online, there are lots of how to videos on YouTube!

I'd photograph them and go to Etsy. Dolls do quite well on there.
