A doll in a box.I have a limited edition Betty Jane Carter musical porcelain doll named Jenne. I have the certificate and the tag on her wrist. I was wondering what her value was? I also have the box in mint condition.

The company that makes Betty Jane Carter dolls is a company that mass produces dolls and sells them around the world. In recent years the doll market online has been flooded with tons of dolls that people are wanting to sell off so they can downsize or just get rid of them because the value of the dolls has greatly decreased. Most dolls today are selling for so little and the most people seem to get is between $5-15 for the dolls.

A musical doll can bring in a bit more and you might be able to get between $20-35 for this doll. I know people ask a lot more for the dolls they are trying to sell but when you look at how much they have sold for this is the price you use to determine the value of the doll you are trying to sell.

Hi! Thanks for sharing her! Is she the 30 inch gal?

If so, she has been sitting on eBay unsold for months at $45.

I haven't seen her sell in ages, so the current market value will have to be under $45. How low? If she was mine, I would start her at $30 and take best offer which could be as low as $5.

While COVID has been giving dolls a bit of a lift in the resell market--not all dolls are selling. Sadly this is one of the ones that has not had a lift in sales.

Post back how your sale goes!

Dolls - so many nice ones listed for sale and such a small percentage will ever sell - no matter the price.
The low value of dolls in general is not the only problem. Marketing research estimates that on an average a doll will remain listed for sale for approximately 1 1/2 years and may never sell.
Of course, that means that some dolls sell quickly while other dolls may stay listed for 4-5 years.
People do not always believe this but if you think about it - a seller can have 100-5,000 listings and may only sell 1/4 of that amount a year so what is happening to the rest of the listings? They're being replaced with the 1/4 maybe but the 3/4's just remain relisted over and over.

I did not find very many sold Betty Jane dolls (of any size/style) and the majority sold were the animal dolls.
eBay is the only site that shows sold listings so you can check what people are actually willing to pay for these dolls.
You may find an occasional 'special' doll that sells for a higher amount but these will be rare.

If you decide to try and sell your doll, I would suggest you list on sites like Facebook Marketplace, offerup, letgo and any other site you're familiar with unless you are an experienced eBay or Etsy seller.
You can always start at a higher amount; even $45 plus shipping or pick up only and offer best offer considered.
Wait a few weeks and if no one makes an offer, you can lower the price and wait again - someone may like the name of Jeanne...

Be sure to pack well because a high percentage are broken when delivered.

There is a lot of these dolls on the market. With so many , the musical ones asking price starts at $40 and up . These are not sold dolls. They are online on various sites- Maybe if you want to sell, try selling locally or yard/garage sell to save on shipping, maybe seeing in person will give you a better price - www.etsy.com/.../betty_jane_carter
