What Sort of Trunk Is This?

Hello, I picked up and old trunk today and I would love to find out more about its age and its history. It smells amazing and it's really cool to think of the adventures it's been on and the history its lived through.

I've had a good look online and can relay the following:

1. There isn't a date on the lock or the latches. I've searched for images of locks and not found anything similar so can't date it this way.
   

2. It's small enough to be a steamer trunk? Actual dimensions are - 14 inches high, 19 inches wide and 31 inches long.
   

3. There is a lip on the inside and I think this means there was a tray at one point?

Would really appreciate any advice. I don't plan to upcyle or any of that. It's amazing just as it is.
