Remember Earth Day is April 22. Let kids decorate a canvas tote to use when shopping to help keep the bags out of our landfill. We need to teach our kids to Reuse, Recycle and Reduce!

Approximate Time: less than 30 minutes

  1. Slide a piece of cardboard inside the tote.

  2. Draw an earth design outline on the tote with a pen.

  3. Paint it using the green and blue paint.

  4. Let dry before removing the cardboard.

  5. Glue on foam letters.

Here's a great kid's craft idea to help them celebrate Earth Day, which is April 22.

Approximate Time Less than 30 minutes

Using a plastic knife, cover the wooden heart (or other shape) completely with peanut butter. Fill a small bowl with bird seed, and place the wooden shape in the bowl. Cover the entire area of the heart with the bird seed making sure no bare spots are left anywhere on the shape. Cut a length of ribbon about 12-16 inches long and run one length of ribbon through the hole. Tie the ends of the ribbon together in a bow or knot. Hang bird biscuit in a tree or somewhere birds have easy access to it.

My three kids worked on this recycled Earth Day wreath. We used cardboard from a cereal box for the base (cut in a circle and taped together).

They all enjoyed gluing on the packing peanuts. I used a grocery bag for the bow.

Make a paper mâché Earth using a balloon, newspaper strips, and flour/water mixture. When it dries pop the balloon, pull it out, then paint. Make a birdfeeder using a papertowel tube, small wood dowel and a thick paper plate. Create planters out of egg shells, milk cartons, etc. Make a milk jug basket by cutting out the center part & leaving the handle in tact.

Use it in a scavenger hunt collecting various items such as leaves, rocks, coins etc. Decorate a reusable grocery bag using a potato as a stamp or imprinting leaves. Leaf imprints. Pressed flowers. Seed and bean collages. Soda can tab jewelry. Or just organize a tree planting, start a butterfly garden it veggie garden. You can plant the seeds in egg cartons, then transplant later. Have fun!
