Freeze Water Bottle

My kids are in sports and practices are right after school. By the time school is over, the water I packed in their gym bag in the morning is warm. I started freezing half the bottle of water the night before. In the morning I take it out of the freezer and fill the bottle the rest of the way. They always have cold water for practice.

If you are like me, I have to have my drinking water really cold. Taking a water bottle to work doesn't work because it gets warm. This way by freezing half the bottle, you will have cold water to drink all day.

I used to do that, I now feel guilty because freezing plastic releases it into the water causing harm. Keeping and washing plastic, esp. in a dishwasher causes it to disintegrate, it goes into the water this way also. The only safe water container is stainless steel, but the ones that say they are sealed inside, like Kleen Kanten.

The harm can be anything from a learning disability to dementia to autism, etc. Go to Dr.Mercola.com and Naturalnews.com for more information.

I know this sounds like a great idea and I used to do the same myself. However, I've read several reputable articles stating that gases that are harmful are released when plastic containers are frozen or heated in the microwave. Hope this helps.

Hi. I used to freeze my bottles too until I read the same thing the others here have said. I then bought a stainless steel water bottle and started freezing that but believe it not it cracked!

I don't know how it did but it did, lol So now I am drinking warm water. :(

I am not the least worried about reusing the plastic bottles. Everything nowadays will kill ya! I do however lay my bottles on their side making sure the bottle opening is not obscured when freezing my water, this way the water stays colder since more ice and water surfaces are touching. If we all die from drinking from a reused plastic bottle. Oh well!

I'm with happyintern - we all have to die from something. I've been using the same, hard-plastic water bottle for years. I simply wash it thoroughly on a regular basis. Also, this tip is something my kids did throughout their school careers. They were in marching band, which also met right after school.

If they hadn't had their own water bottles, it might've been difficult to get a drink since the school was often locked soon after classes ended. Who wants a bunch of young people fainting (or at least sick and cranky) from dehydration?
