I need help. I have a navy couch and love seat with grey carpet. Any wall color suggestions? I have two days.
By cathy from Dearborn, MI
You're lucky that you have two very neutral colors on your hands! You could go with a fun, saturated bright color like orange or hot pink. Go cooler with a nice green or just the right purple. Do a nice monochromatic look with lighter shades of blue. The possibilities are endless. Whatever you do, you can pull it together with accessories, wall art and fabrics. The grey carpet is certainly neutral and shouldn't hinder anything you choose to do with the wall color.
Take a look at a color wheel and consider the groupings shown: www.worqx.com/
Any of them would work. Good luck!
Bring in a pillow/carpet cutting to a home decor store(that sells paint) and they will know what's best. All they charge for is the paint. You will pay for that somewhere. Good luck
A bright sunny yellow or golden color would warm up a the coolness of blue and gray.
I have a large room 700 sq. ft. with 2 burgundy chairs and a light grey couch. What color should I paint the walls?
If you want to be very dramatic, you could paint the walls a light to medium charcoal. If that's too dramatic for your taste, you could use the same light grey as the couch to which has been added a small amount of the burgundy in the chairs.
You could use a grayish-blue or even a light shade of slate blue for more drama. Then accessorize with complimentary colors.
I have a medium sized living room with a dark brown couch and chairs and a deep cherry TV stand, coffee table, and end tables. I have a faux deep cherry fire place as well. I have one regular window and an open adjoining dining room and open adjoining office. Both other rooms have two regular sized windows each. There are similar furnishings in each. I currently have Cascade antique gold curtains with hints of cranberry and hunter green that are shimmery in nature. I'm at an impasse as to what color to paint my walls. Any suggestions?
I first though to paint an accent wall behind the TV opposite my window, a cranberry color and then use a creamy white on the rest of the walls. I have jacquard fabric furniture covers that are burgandy and flip to tan. I'm not sure if this would look right. As of now, my walls are a dull white, almost grey tone and look very dull.
it would really help to see a picture of the room. So saying, considering the dark, rich colours that you describe, the first thought that comes to me is some sort of light yellow, such as this:
go to link attached and insert first 1215, 127, 155, or 7499. You could even venture towards 9020 C or 9181 U, to take it a different direction
My living and dining area is 1 large room. They are painted a harvest gold with white trim, my curtains are gold stripe, and the sofa is tan. I have put down new carpet, mostly grey with a touch of tan that shows in the sunlight. But it is really grey. I want to paint the rooms grey, but will that match the sofa and the curtains? I really don't want to go to the expense of buying new curtains. Should I paint gray or leave gold in your opinion.
I think you should leave gold. Grey walls sound very overwhelming to me.
Have you thought of going in a different direction? I feel like something in the red spectrum would go really great and liven up the room while contrasting nicely.
I have a terracotta tannish settee, with dark traditional furniture and wooden oak floors. What colour do I paint my walls? The room is not large.
I feel like a light version of the primary colours (red, blue, or yellow) would work really well with this setup. Examples of what I envision are:
light blue - 0.tqn.com/
light red - www.colorcombos.com/
light yellow - www.freejupiter.com/
I have a rather large living room, a white leather sofa (sectional, small), 2 gray swivel recliners, and hardwood floors. My accent furniture is rather dark. What color would I paint my living room? Also, I have a peaked 20 feet ceiling. Upon leaving the living room and entering the kitchen everything in the kitchen is some form of gray. Please help!
I would stick with the gray. Pale pale on at least three walls and a stronger version on the wall that would visually shorten and soften the room. You can then go a little color crazy on accessories: pillows, area rug (5x7or 8x10) under the coffee table area. If you are not formal, you can even use one of the outdoor rugs that are now on clearance. Solid or patterned, They have finished edges and easy to clean. If you don't want a rug, have fun mwith FullLength drapes please. Patterned drapes are a frame for the window and a cheap smile of color framing the light.
MY HUSBAND IS, A PROFESSIONAL PAINTER! HE SAID, A BURGUNDY OR PUMPKIN ORANGE, ACCENT WALL, WOULD LOOK NICE, POSSIBLY, OR IF, YOU WOULD LIKE, TO GO, MORE FANCY OR CLASSY, YOU COULD GO, WITH A GREEN & WHITE MARBLING, FAUX PAINT! HOPE, THAT'S, OF SOME HELP, TO YA! BLESSINGS!
I have purchased a new suite and am struggling to think of wall colours. The suite is light - in between cream and grey. I am going for dark wood floor. What colour would you recommend I paint the walls?
I would like to wallpaper the chimney breast again struggling to think of what colour. I have mango wood furniture in the room. It is a large and light room. I do like greens and duck egg.My kitchen has grey walls, white cabinets, black worktops, and will have black and white tiles when it's finished and red accessories. I want advice on what color to have in my living room so that both rooms flow as you have to walk through the living room to get to the kitchen. At the moment the walls are a neutral color (we mixed a bit of light brown in with magnolia so that it would be a bit darker) and cream wallpaper with red flowers.
The sofas are dark brown with cream cushions and light brown carpet (which might be changing we're not sure yet) and the fireplace is a light brown wood. I was liking the look of a silver wallpaper, but no idea what color to go with it (or if it will be too much). What color wallpaper/paint would you suggest? Sorry for the long post.My sofa is shades of aqua and white. What color should I paint the walls?
I have a grey leather sofas and dark wood flooring. It is a long narrow room with windows at both ends. What is the best colour to paint my walls?
I have brown furniture, cream colored carpet, and black throw rugs. What color should I paint my walls?
With those colors you could paint the walls just about any color you like. But depending upon the light coming in the room and how much brown furniture you do have. Personally, I'm pretty conservative with wall color in my living room. I know this doesn't help you much but just a thought.
What color or colors can I paint my living room? I need lots of ideas to choose from please.
Not sure exactly which colour but I think you need something that will bring some warmth and brightness. Maybe pale orange
Go look at show homes in your city and see what the trends are. Then choose the colour you like. Your sofa is brown, and the flooring white, so you have a pretty clear field. I think you should look at going with a brighter colour in your accent pieces and get some wall art that will pep up the room. I like a nice pale background, so I would leave most of the walls white/off white, and paint one of the walls dark brown for contrast.
I'm attaching the pics of the furniture I've bought for the living room:
So it's more of a dark brown with green theme for the lounge which also extends into the dining area. My dining table and chairs are also dark brown.
Here is what I need advice with; my lounge is not very big.
Any advice would be much appreciated as I'm really confused about the colour scheme. I wanna have one or two large plants in there as well to go with my green and brown theme.
Thanks.
Since you have so many dark hues (which I think is great) maybe ivory or off white. I don't care for the pure white, I think it looks stark. If this were my room I would do both the side walls and ceiling in off white or ivory.
I agree with Marty on the cream paint. It not only goes with the different shades of green, but also with the dark brown. You really do need a lighter color in the room. If you had chosen lighter color furnishings, then you could swing for darker walls. Light walls also give the illusion the room is larger. Have fun!
I have dark chocolate leather furniture and sheer burgundy curtains in the living room. I'd like to paint the living room walls, as they are white. What color(s) would you recommend? I want the room to look bigger and add some live color. Thx in advance!

I have light wood floors, a print beige and burgundy with medium green, dark brown recliner, and off white wood shades on large window. What color walls? I was thinking of light beige walls and drapes on a decorative black rod to flow on the sides of the window shades.

This sounds a little like my bedroom. I have beige carpet, mission style medium dark wood color and floral curtains with pinks greens burgandys and some blue. I currently have a very very pale lilac (it looks pink) with even more pale trim (it looks white). This has been a very pleasing scheme for years.
I like your idea. I prefer a neutral background, and I like drapes that blend into the wall colour rather than shout "look at me, look at me". I think it makes the room look more spacious and full of light. As well, should you change out any of your furniture, the walls will still look good with it.
I have brown furniture and tan colored tile in my living room. Currently the walls are a very slight off white, but I'd like to paint them a different color. I just don't know what would look good. I would love some ideas.

What color are the window coverings? Is there a color in them that you could pick up? Since I am not fond of yellows/ golds, I won't recommend them, but a warm coral might work. Also something in the green or blue family, and then repeated in pillows. This would pull the room together. Painting strips on the walls and ceiling would enliven the room. Hope this helps. With the tile and furniture colors, you can pick just about anything, but I do think the room needs color.
Dark colours are very trendy. Maybe you could do one feature wall in a dark brown or a rusty red, and then the other walls in lighter shade. You could add colour with your paintings on the wall, throws and pillows. Or perhaps, if you have drapes, make them white with white accessories, so the room is dark brown and white. I think that would look quite nice.
I purchased Adore beige color curtains for my living room walls. So which color would be best on the walls?
By sudhakar
We just purchased a house in which the living and dining room are painted a really nice beige color. We just purchased a couch that is roughly the same color as the walls. Should we paint the walls a darker color than the couch? Or is it OK to have them roughly the same color?
By Ashley
I would find a really nice throw and some pretty pillows. Often accent colors are nice to draw the line. Or yes, you can paint an accent wall just a shade darker. I hope that helps. PBP
The real question here is if you like the look of the couch in the room the way it is. If you do, fine. I agree with the other poster that a nice throw and accent pillows might be enough colour. Or, you could use a lot of pictures/paintings/artwork on your walls to liven things up.
My girlfriend and I are moving in to our first apartment together and we are allowed to paint the walls. We have a red couch and a blue recliner. These obviously will change later on but we need something that will go with what we have right now and in the future.
Also my girlfriend has black curtains if that affects anything. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you.By Alec
I think I would go with either a pale, powder blue or ivory.
I would go with off-white (but not a greyed white - those can be depressing), grey, or ivory. With that as a neutral background, you can use the black curtains. If your budget stretches that far, you might consider a slipcover or large throw for the couch, as it makes a very powerful statement. If you covered it up with a neutral or with a blue cover, you could go with pale blue walls.
What colour walls go with dark chocolate brown leather furniture, wood trim, and early American wood floors?

I have bright lemon yellow in my living room. It's really nice since it never gets gloomy even on cloudy winter days.
I just painted my walls in the living room "morning breeze" which is a light blue. My friend just gave me a very nice sectional; the only problem is that the color is rust. Is there a way to make it work without having to repaint?
By T.Carreno from LA, CA
Find some throw pillows with a combination of pale blue and some shade of brown in them. There is a possibility that you might have to buy fabric and make the pillows, but they wouldn't be hard to do. There are quite a few prints that are a combination of blues and browns. Then add a few pale blue accessories.
I like the pillow idea. You might also try small throw rugs or curtains with blue, white and rust in them.
I have a combo living/dining room. There are cream walls, a burgundy sectional, black end tables, black/dark wood dining set, and cream carpet. I am looking to put more color in this room but on a low budget. I was thinking turquoise and golden yellow as accents. I would like to paint the walls white, if we went with those accent colors. Any ideas, comments, or advice?

Find a color wheel or else go to your paint store and get some paint chips to see what you like. Basically I a firm believer in doing what you like, unless it absolutely screams out that it isn't working.
Keep what you have, cream carpet, wall, and furnishings then find some patterned material (style you like) in several patterns that include some of the basic colors you already have plus your desired turquoise and gold. Make pillow shams, seat covers for dining room, lamp shades or whatever.. Also add color in prints on you walls and color in lamps on your end tables. Books and magazines can also add a zip to a room. Go to the thrift store and find hard cover books with the colors you like and stack or add to any bookshelf you may have. Paint old wicker baskets in your fun colors to hold "stuff". My daughter has found great pieces of fabric at thrift stores, and it doesn't always have to be straight yardage. Scarves and dresses, old drapes can give you some great material. Have fun and you do not have to spend much money and it should look smashing!
My walls are light blue with a capri blue top skirting. I would like to hear your views on which colour I should paint the walls with an accent wall in a different tone. And what colour rug and pillows should I get? I want the living room to look soft and relaxing. Thank you.
By Medlin from Kenya, Nairobi
I think a good way to start is to buy some multicolored pillows or a rug and pull the colors out of them to help you decide on wall color. For instance, an off white pillow with brown, green, etc. stripes would add a burst of color and give you an idea for wall color and accessories to match the pillows. I think a light brown, tannish wall color would be nice to work with. Good luck.
I would paint the walls a nice deep cream color (that has a yellow undertone). Then paint an accent wall the same color as the piping on the sofas. Now you can experiment with with throw pillows, lamps, etc. to find an other accent (smaller) colors you like.
What color should I paint my living room with a sage colored couch?
Daowens from Bronx, NY
Hi Daowens! You could consider painting the room a very very light sage color ... the same as your couch except with lots of white in it :D Rooms painted green can be quite lovely.
We used a soft brown Sherwin Williams "down home" with our sage green sofa. I have a fun colorful rug and off-white drapes and we love it.
I have off white colored walls with a black fabric couch with gray and white flowers printed on it. What color curtains would go best with it?
I am looking for a double rod curtain set to let sunlight through. Please suggest?TIA :)
I am painting a room that is 26 feet by 15 feet. I have green and brown plaid furniture, dark floors, and cream walls now. I want something warmer. What color would be best?
I'm getting living room furniture that is gold colored. What might be some wall color options that would complement these pieces? Thanks.
I am in the process of tearing out my carpet and laying down hardwood flooring. I have dark brown furniture and am going to have a mild brown floor. What colors do you think would complement this? My wife wants a grey, but I am thinking a light blue or green would be nicer.
I am looking for a color to paint the walls for a room with white leather couches, mahogany wood floors, and wood trim throughout. I like warm colors and prefer to accent colors with pillows. Maybe an accent wall?
I have recently moved into a house with a brown fitted carpet and I have a pale green leather 3 piece suite. Any ideas on what colour I can paint the walls would be appreciated, I want a feature wall and some wall art. Thank you.
I'm in the process of having my living room walls sheet rocked. I'm having a problem coming up with the paint color for when they're finished. My couch is navy and my love seat and recliner are red with navy flecks. My dining room, which connects to my living room is sort of a clay color with pink undertones. My previous living room color was an earthy golden yellow. I don't really want to put the same color back, but I can't seem to come up with anything else. Help!
I had heard that you should pick a color opposite on the color wheel. That would be blue-green in my case. I love that color, but I'm not sure that would match my furniture. I also need the color to be on the lighter side since I don't get enough direct sunlight in that room. Please let me know what you think. I'm getting desperate!
I have a beige couch with red accent pillows in my living room. I am looking for advice on what color to paint the walls?
