Craigslist.org has a category "FREE" that consists of used furniture tossed out from a rental or replacement of their own furniture pieces. There are a mixture of conditions from poor to good of all kinds from appliances to living room, etc. Worth looking into as you might find something near your vicinity.

I would go on Facebook and ask there to start off with. You should try and find people in your hometown to get furniture from.

There is also Craigslist and even thrift stores that will give people furniture in need. You can also try on Freecycle to post there for help.
