This bug was crawling up the wall. I smashed it, but it looks like it has wings down the shell. I was freaking out about bed bugs or even a bat bug, but I don't think that's what it is.

There is no need to worry about bat bugs or even bed bugs because this bug is a typical beetle that come in from outside. All you need to do is vacuum them up and throw the bag away in the trash can. You can also lay down some sticky flypaper to trap them and throw them away.
Try one of the onitis beetles. It may be in that family.
