Identifying a Porcelain Doll

I am trying to get more information about this doll that was handed down to us. We have searched a little, but can't determine the brand or value. Thanks for any help.

Your doll is a Morimura Brothers doll and it was made in Japan.

  • The symbol on the back is the Morimura Brothers (MB) and the name underneath is Japan. The number 22 is the mold model.
  • I have not been able to find out what years the different model numbers were produced but it is an important part of the brand.
  • It Morimura Brothers produced more doll "heads" than they did dolls and these were sold to different companies all over the world.
  • Here are some MB dolls presently listed on eBay but these are shown with the sellers "asking" prices and some of these dolls may never sell.

  • Here are some dolls that actually sold in the past several months and you can see that prices go from $12-$100.
  • I did find a list of their doll numbers but no years: Morimura Doll mold numbers 22, 50, 202, 405, 497, 602, 1603, 70018
  • Here is some information but I believe you may have to have your doll appraised by an official person/site.
  • dollreference.com/morimura_dolls.html
  • Here is a site that has "free" doll appraisals but be sure there is no cost before you send info and photos.
  • You could take your doll to a local antique shop but this is not a common doll so they may not have very much current information.
  • Here are a couple of links that you can check out.

Just as information: Morimura Brothers also made Nippon china items and that company is presently Noritake Co., Limited.

I don't recognize this doll. You could look up the symbol on www.dollreference.com. It looks like it starts with a J.

I've searched all the doll symbols online and this one isn't there. I would like to suggest that you take this to an antique auction house in your area. There they will have people who can appraise items.

They have a doll appraiser there. This would be your best bet in trying to find out more about this doll. Otherwise on eBay they have a lady there that you'll need to pay to help identify your doll.
