Janome Sewing Machine Hand Wheel Turning Slowly?

I have a Janome New Home Sewing Machine HD3000. The hand wheel is turning stiffly and the speed of stitching doesn't differ with pressure on the foot pedal; it is slow. Does it need to be lubricated?

It needs to be oiled. Refer to the user manual.

Here is a video about oiling. Be careful and run junk fabric thru before starting a project, just to be sure no oil will get on your project:

If that doesn't work work, contact the company for guidance:

Caution: Your machine is not supposed to be lubricated!!! Please do not oil this machine. Your problem is not with lubrication so please check your manual before doing anything with your machine.

  • If you do not have a manual then here is a link to download one and it is best to print it so you can read it as you check your machine.

  • You will find this statement on page #47:
  • This machine never needs oiling but the bobbin area and hook race should be cleaned after completion of every garment. Do not store the machine in an area of high humidity, near a radiator or in direct sunlight.
  • There are several pages for troubleshooting this machine so look at these first and then if you cannot fix your problem you should call a local dealer and ask for help.
  • I believe you will find that Janome will no longer reply to message or phone calls about machine problems but (as stated on their website) they state to call your local dealer or ask the question on their community forum.

  • Here is one answer to a similar problem:
  • "Have you removed the needle plate and whatever else can be removed down there (shuttle race, hook) and cleaned out any fuzz or lint completely? Your manual should tell you how to do this. You can use canned air or a small brush or a vacuum hose to get the lint out. That would be my first troubleshooting move."
