Zig Zag Stitch Is Straight on Underside?

I have a Singer 257 sewing machine. The needle side zig zag looks good. The bobbin side is a straight line--no zig zag. Is this out of time or what? Something simple or not?

Perhaps your bobbin needs to be reversed?

The tension on the bobbin needs to be adjusted. Remove the needle plate and there will be a screw near the bobbin case. Refer to the manual as to which direction tightens the tension and vice versa.
