Stir Fried Cabbage

If you use low sodium soy sauce, you might want to season to taste with a tad bit of salt just after adding the sesame oil.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 small head cabbage, trimmed and sliced
  • 2 Tbsp, soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp, rice vinegar
  • sesame oil to taste

Directions:

Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and saute until softened and translucent. Stir in garlic and saute for one minute. Stir in half of the cabbage and saute until it is barely beginning to wilt then stir in the rest of the cabbage and continue to saute until barely beginning to wilt.

Add soy sauce and vinegar and cook until cabbage has wilted to taste, remove from heat, add sesame oil to taste and serve.

have you ever tried 2 slices of bacon instead of olive oil for taste?

Sounds yummy! A Change from my favorite fried with bacon grease, but with bacon prices these days, the olive and sesame oils will work. Thanks Deeli, GG Vi

Hi Fuzzytufts! Thanks for sharing your feedback!

I have indeed tried it with bacon. As a matter of fact Great Granny Vi shared her favorite fried cabbage with bacon recipe with us here at ThriftyFun about a year or so ago and it's indeed yummy!

What I like about this particular recipe is that it uses oriental flavorings that would be more in keeping to serve with oriental themed meals. :-)

Mmm, if you didn't want to use bacon and wanted to keep to an Asian theme,
Chinese style barbecued pork (the kind that is served with hot mustard) would be yummy to add here too. Assuming you ever had leftover barbecued pork, which never happens in our house :)

Or maybe a bit of sesame oil. Can you tell I'm hungry? I'll have to play around the next time I have some cabbage.
