It could be a change in schedule or family life change. If not, there could be an illness or infection in the dog. Consult the vet.
Did you happen to change the food you were feeding the dog? If this happens the dog may have to go poop more often than before. Since the dog knows he must go to the door to be let out and nobody is letting him out he goes there to the bathroom.
The dog seems to want to do the right thing, and goes to the door to be let out , but know one does. My much older dog who was 18 when she died , needed to poop more often over the last couple of years of her life. I always tried to get her out every 3 hours. While at work or out for the day she was put into a large pen in the garage which had newspaper on the floor for her to do her toilet on. Stress free for both of us.
